The meteorology was benevolent during the development of the tests of innovation and technological development, convened by Marine Instruments in the V Solar Regata, the second for car racing.

A small water truce allowed the holding of the two scheduled tests on the Ribera de Baiona Beach, a speed sleeve and a second skill, for both school and Open categories. And that that morning had not begun very hopeful, with intense avocados that made the development of the competition unviable.

At 11: 30 in the morning, some clear ones were said to have passed, and at 12: 00, the prototypes designed by students from ESO, Baccalaureate and Open, were sailing in a loose way beyond the initial expectations.

Montecastelo Bot, from the school Las Acacias- Montecastelo, took the cat to the water, defeating in the two school categories of ships and cars. At Open, the A Industriosa viguesa was successful, with a prototype car that was surprised by its speed. Second was the Guardia OPRobots and third was the Coruñés Britolabs. The Car Design Award was taken by the A Guarda team, OPRobots.

In solar ships, after Montecastelo Bot, Marist-eze, from Maristas de Ourense, were also the third orensians in this category with the team Barquillo Maristas. The special design award was for the Coruñes of the Bricolabs.

The award was held at 2 p.m. on the walk of the Ribera Beach, with the presence of Mayor Carlos Gómez, and that of the representatives of Marine Instruments, Jaime Prado and Andrés Rodríguez... the fifth edition of the Solar Regata was made possible thanks to the sponsorship of the Concello de Baiona, the Monte Real Club de Yates de Bayona, Gadis, Coca Cola, TuyPan, the Naval Effects Jesus Betanzos, Cetmar, SC Robotics, Sunbeam System and SusTunTech (Photo Juan Caballero)

After three years of involuntary absence due to the pandemic caused by the Covid 19, the Solar Marine Instruments Regata returns in its 5th edition, being the second for solar cars that have also opened way among the participants, more than 200 representing 45 teams, between schools and open category.

Initially scheduled for Saturday, June 18, the weather forecast for this day, with intermittent rains and covered sky, has forced the organizers to make the decision to move it by Thursday, 23, after consulting different weather models that did not guarantee a stable time for this day, where sunlight is essential to feed the plates that are the true driving force of the prototypes.

The requirements of the boats and the cars are governed by rules common to all the participants, developed by Marine Instruments and which provide that the only energy used will be the solar, generated by the official panel of 100 W for the boats and 50 W for the cars, not allowing the use of electric accumulators. Both the panel and the auxiliary batteries delivered by Marine Instruments will be the only valid materials.

In addition, Marine Instruments provides each team belonging to a school with a radio control command and financial support valued at €100 for ships and up to €150 for cars.

In this edition there are two different categories: educational institutions (including ESO, Baccalaureate and VET cycles. In this category free participation is not allowed, so there must always be a teacher on the team), Open (for all those technology enthusiasts who want to chatter and compete with high-level participants).

For educational institutions, three awards have been awarded to the winners of the competition with endowments of 500, 400 and 300 euros or equivalent prize... and in the category open are three awards for the winners of the race with endowments of 500, 400 and 300 euros
