The responsibility it demands, too."
The aim of this campaign is to prevent accidents and episodes of maritime pollution affecting recreational nautical activity, a sector that during 2021 concentrated 53% of the emergencies served between June and September by Salvamento Marítimo. A total of 5,556 people were attended in more than 2,100 emergencies during the four months. This year's campaign will be aimed, in particular, at users of nautical motorcycles and small boats.
Recreation nautical is a growing sector, conceived as safe tourism during the harshest summers of the pandemic, which grew last year by 17% in Spain, compared with the previous year, overcoming the barrier of 7,000 enrollments, which was not produced since 2008.
The collaboration with the Civil Guard, which is responsible for monitoring the navigability certificates, the civil liability insurance in force, the certification of patterns or phondeans in protected areas, and ensuring that beacons are respected on the beaches. In 2021, the Civil Guard carried out 1,686 inspections of nautical motorcycles and in almost 40 per cent of the cases there was a proposal for a sanction. In addition, 2,684 sports and recreational vessels were inspected... it should be recalled that the General Directorate of the Merchant Navy and the General Directorate of the Civil Guard have signed an agreement to strengthen this collaboration, especially during the summer months.
