The Nautico de Vigo aims to organize in 2024 the European of Optimist

On Saturday, July 2, Spain will defend the Nautico candidacy in Bodrum (Turkey). The General Assembly of the IODA shall decide which of the three candidates shall accept by vote on Monday 4
The Royal Nautical Club of Vigo has presented its official candidacy to the IODA, the association that governs the destinations of the Optimist worldwide, to organize for the first time in the Viguese era the European Championship of this international class in the summer of 2024.
In a month, at a meeting in Turkey, during the World Cup dispute in Turkey, the General Assembly will decide between three countries: Slovenia (Portoroz), Spain (Vigo) and Italy (Carrara).
Spain has hosted the Europeans of 2021 (El Puerto de Santa María, Cadiz), which won its designation to the third presentation of its proposal, 1996 (Palma de Mallorca) and 1983 (El Masnou, first edition of the event).
Portoroz, who also presents himself as a candidate for the 2024 World Cup in the class - he has never organized it - received the 2020 European in its Adriatic waters. Before, in 1997, the municipality of Piran, where the Slovenian city-spa is located, had also had the international fleet. The last two times the European was held in Italy was in 2016 and 2012. Carrara, in Tuscany, is known for its marble and is bathed by the Liguria Sea.
The European Optimist mobilizes 300 girls and boys from half a hundred countries, being open to any nationality.
