Regular performance of Spanish teams in the semifinals of the Sailing Champions League
Last weekend they concluded in Vilamoura, the semi-finals of the Sailing Champions League, or also known as the European Sailing League. With more than 20 teams from the rest of Europe, the podium was for the Germans of the Bodensee Yachtclub Überlingen in first position, followed very closely by the Italians of the Centre Sportivo Aeronautica Militare while the third place was for the Swiss of the Thunersee--Yachtclub,.
There were only two Spanish teams: the Lanzarote European Destination of the Royal Nautical Club of Arrecife and the Nautical Club of Altea... the latter occupied the tenth square, while the lanzaroteños finished the semi-final in the fifth position. Both teams were able to participate in this semifinal thanks to the proclamation of champions (Arrecife) and subchampions (Altea) in the Spanish Vela League.
The level of competitiveness of this continental semi-final has been very high, with many professional crews and Olympic regatists of other classes. That was no problem for the young islanders, because in many races they could be measured from you to you with the favorites. The problem was the strong wind and the small weight of the Canary crew. For the first two days were conditioned by the high intensity of the wind and those of Lanzarote suffered more than expected. When the wind bounced a little bit it allowed them to have more control of the ship and developed very good speed, achieving 3 partial wins and four seconds on. But it wasn't enough to climb further into the final classification.
On this occasion the crew of Lanzarote was formed by promises of the canarian candle such as Alberto Morales (pattern), Miguel Bethencourt (bow) and the experienced trimmers Pedro de León and Cristian Sánchez... lto the next quote of this demanding competition is the final that will take place in German waters, in Travemunde at the end of July, and to which the team of Lanzarote with a crew formed by Nano Negrín to the cane, Rafa Lasso to the bow and the trimers Gonzalo Morales and Ricardo Terrades
2022-05-27: Lanzarote commands in Vilamoura in the selective of the Champions
The semi-final of the Sailing Champions League is being held in Vilamoura... the sleeves began last Thursday and will end next Sunday.
A total of 23 teams from all over Europe have come to the meeting, with the aim of getting an abrogation to dispute the great final that will take place in the German town of Travemunde in mid-July.
Only two Spanish teams have managed to qualify for this first European test: the launchers of the Nautico de Arrecife- Lanzarote ESD and the CN Altea, who were the champions and subchampions of the Spanish Vela League, respectively.
The start of the championship has not gone the best way for the Spaniards and it is Lanzarote's who go best in the provisional classification being among the top 12 classified.
While the top 3 of the classification is for Italians, Swiss and Germans. The rest of Europe is represented with the following countries: Austria, Finland, France, Italy, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden and Spain.
The Vilamoura race field is most complete and is presenting fantastic conditions for navigation. The teams have sailed with fresh breezes that have reached 18 knots of intensity, but with the passage of hours, the wind goes to 8 knots. Conditions that make the classification much equal, without much favour to the heavier crews or to the lighter ones.
