The canary regatist Joaquín Blanco closes his participation in the world with a 4-21 that leads him to the seventeenth place of the classification

The Bay of Banderas was yesterday the stage of the last two tests of the ILCA7 World Championship, in which Joaquín Blanco was the best Spanish in the 17th place. He was followed by Joel Rodríguez, 19th, Leo Barreto 58th and Victor Gorostegui 118th.

The Championship, which has had a fleet of 126 regatists, has developed under variable wind conditions, between 8 and 15 knots, whose instability has led to numerous changes in the course of the 12 trials.

The first three days were dedicated to the Classifying Series, with 6 sleeves after which the three members of the pre-Olympic team, Blanco, Rodríguez and Barreto, passed to the Final Series within the Oro group.

Six other races held in three days completed the Final Series, after which Joaquín Blanco and Joel Rodríguez are in the international Top20 in the first World Championship of the Olympic cycle.

It has been a competition of ups and downs, in which Blanco scored a first place on the opening day, tarnished by a 40th, which placed him in the 38th place, with Rodríguez being the first Spanish to stand out in the 19th position.

With the entry into play of the discard and two fifths put in the next round, Blanco took advantage and stood fourth of the general, keeping Rodríguez the 19th square.

At the close of the Classifying Series, Blanco continued to head the national team, but fell to the 13th, with Rodríguez, who was unable to complete the second test of the day for knee discomfort on the 21st.

Joel Rodríguez took the lead at the beginning of the Final Series and stood fourteenth as Joaquín Blanco fell to the 27th, cutting off distances in the next day, in which he ascended until the 19th, on his heels to Rodríguez, which was 18.

On the last day, both regatists have had their face and their cross. White began the day with a fourth place, while Rodríguez was on an off-line. The torns changed in the second test and as Blanco added up to a 21st, Rodríguez fired the Championship with a third.

The new world champion is French Jean- Baptiste Bernaz, leader since the second day of competition.

The program does not contemplate the Medal Race dispute, so the entire fleet will sail tomorrow in the two final races on which the World Champion of the class 2022 will be decided.

Penultimate day of regatta in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, with two new sleeves that have allowed Joaquín Blanco to climb seven positions in the classification to be placed 19 °, on the heels of Joel Rodríguez which is 18 °.

The wind has been unstable and has blown with little intensity, which has meant a postponement at sea until conditions have allowed the start of the competition.

White has joined today a twenty-first and a ninth, while Rodríguez has increased to his markers a 21 and a 35, the latter discarded, which have lost four posts in the classification. Between the two the difference is only 3 points, so either of them can end tomorrow as best Spanish on the table.

With a 48th and a 39th, Leopoldo Barreto also raises some posts and is located at 58th.

The French Jean- Baptiste Bernaz continues to head the provisional general, with a good mattress of points on the New Zealand Thomas Saunders, which in 2021 was made with the world title in Barcelona waters.

The ILCA 7 World Cup entered yesterday, Thursday 26, in its final phase in which three Spaniards are competing in the gold group, reserved for the first half of a fleet of 126 regatists. The canary Joel Rodríguez continues with his personal return and is now in position 14 of the general.

The thermal wind of the Bay of Banderas made an act of presence although blowing more from the right and with less intensity than in the previous days. A situation to which a stronger current joined that pushed the ships slightly to barlovent.

With these conditions, Joel Rodríguez managed to add two good partials (11 + 8) to climb positions and, from position 14, approach the top 10 of the fleet leading the French Jean- Baptiste Bernaz.

The conditions were not so favourable for Joaquín Blanco, who yesterday closed his worst day of the entire championship with a 35 + 42, results that relegate him to the 27th position. Closing the Spanish participation in the gold group, Leopoldo Barreto, who with a BDF in the first approval of the day and a 58 in the second, ended up down to position 61.

Two new days of competition remain ahead, with a total of four sleeves to be played, after which the new world champion of ILCA 7 will be known.
