Quantum wins in Baiona the Abanca 52 Super Series and takes command of the Circuit

The first visit of the 52 Super Series to Galicia was closed with a last day of show in the waters of the Ria de Vigo... the American Quantum Racing managed the advantage with which he faced the final after four excellent days of races to raise his first title since 2019 and lead the season (Photo Nico Martínez)
The nine teams were going out in the water to fight the last day of the competition of the Abanca 52 Super Series Baiona Sailing Week with a program of two tests and good conditions in the race field.
The eighth test of the week (later, the last one) presented excellent conditions for the sailing competition. The British Gladiator, the Turkish Provider and the Thai Vayu crossed the line early and had to take the exit again, reducing traffic for their six rivals in the first steps of the test. Once again, the tactics were forced to use all their magic to read a field full of nuances and without a clear path. After an intense exchange of positions, the Alegre del armador y timonel Andy Soriano surrounded the first buoy of the tour in the head, leading the rest of the test until he scored his first partial victory of the season. After suffering for much of the journey, Quantum Racing obtained a second meritorious square that served him to extend his advantage to the front of the provisional mercy of the third of the Phoenix and the fifth of Platoon, the only ones who could threaten his Galician victory.
Quantum Racing faced the final with a seven-point income in front of the provisional, comfortable advantage but not enough in such a competitive fleet. An offline made it clear that the Americans did not pull the calculator to secure the title, but they sailed the importance of each point to the general classification of a season without discards.
With Phoenix in front of the load and Quantum Racing closing the platoon, for moments the title of Baiona seemed to be decanting for the South African team. But a radical wind role in the middle of the tour forced the main regatta officer, María Torrijo, to cancel the test and send the fleet back to the pants of Mount Real Club of Yates de Baiona.

2022-05-27: Last act of the 52 Abanca Super Series in Baiona with favorite Quantum

The American team took the lead in the only contest in the fourth day of the competition of the Abanca 52 Super Series Baiona Sailing Week. A collision between Gladiator and Sled at the exit caused a penalty for the British and the withdrawal of both ships, leaving the fleet reduced to seven teams for the only test of the day. Quantum Racing leads the Platoon by four points to the end of Saturday, planned for two tests in unpublished wind conditions in the field of regatas of the Vigo Ria
The fourth day of competition of the Abanca52 Super Series Baiona Sailing Week presented the lighter breeze conditions of the week. With an intensity below ten knots and under the influence of an unusual heat, the fleet showed that it also can compete and generate show in soft winds.
After four days and seven partials in the locker, the American Quantum Racing faces the last day of competition with a four-point advantage over the German Platoon at the head of the provisional, minimum income between such an equal fleet. The identity of the winner of the first of the five events will be decided tomorrow in a program composed of two tests in the Galician Rías Baixas.
As in the previous day, the breeze delayed the first exit until after 14: 00, but on this occasion it reached a range of 8-9 knots, the lowest of the week. An incident between Gladiator and Sled At the exit it caused the collision and subsequent withdrawal of both, resulting in a black flag for the British team, which scored ten points plus three penalty points. The American received 4.5 repair points, but was left unenjoyed by this seventh championship test.
A large exit from the Quantum Racing to the left of the field allowed the provisional leader to initially place himself in the head. It was soon clear that the pressure was on the right side of the field, and the whole rise to the first buoy was concentrated in that area of the pitch. Platoon reached the first step point of the tour, followed closely by the intense pulse between Quantum Racing and Phoenix.
The turning point of this seventh manga was in the decision where to start the first stretch of stern, and here it was once again right Quantum Racing as it went to the left looking for better speed and angle to get in front and master the rest of the test. Good call also from the Phoenix tactic on the last stretch, which managed to get the South African ship to beat the German to score a much-worked second place, 44 seconds from the winner Quantum Racing. The Interlodge room allowed the American ship to take the fourth provisional square from Thai Vayu (seventh in this test).
After a brief wait in the water, and in the light of the evidence that the minimum conditions for competition would no longer be given, the main regatta officer María Torrijo decided to take the day off and send the fleet back to the pants of Mount Real Club de Yates de Baiona.
The race will be decided tomorrow... three teams start with mathematical options to share the positions on the first Galician podium in the history of the circuit: the Quantum Racing of the shipowner Doug De Vos, leading with 17 points and a magnificent card that includes three partial victories and a fifth as the worst result. He was followed by the Harm Müller Spreer Platoon and seven by the Hasso Plattner Phoenix.

2022-05-26: Zarpazo of the British Gladiator in the Abanca 52 Super Series Baiona Week

The American team ascended to the head of the Abanca 52 Super Series Baiona Sailing Week provisional after chaining their second day with the fleet's best results. The British Gladiator imposed himself with authority in the first test of the day, a feat he did not achieve since 2018. In the following, Quantum Racing scored his second partial victory of the week to return to the Mount Real Club of Yates of Baiona as a new leader (Photo Nico Martínez)
The Abanca 52 Super Series Baiona Sailing Week crossed the equator of its competition program with a day in which the wind took time to establish itself in the race field in front of the Cis Islands, but once again it allowed to meet the program designed by the Spanish Maria Torrijo.
completed three days and six tests, the American Quantum Racing faces the second half of the race in front of the provisional with two points of advantage over the German Platoon and six over the South African Phoenix, the leader of the first two days, who fell two positions after signing his two worst partial of the week (8 + 6).
The wind took time to settle in the river of Vigo and the fleet had to wait until 14: 45 to jump to the pitch. Alegre crossed the line before time and was forced to repeat the exit as his rivals began to spread through the field. The Gladiator of the British shipowner Tony Langley, who this week has on board the Spanish Xabi Fernández, soon looked forward to betting on the right of the field, but it was Thai Vayu who came in head of the first step by buoy.
The Whitcraft family ship, a great revelation of the inaugural day, was wrong to look for the left side of the field and saw its rivals escape right on the first stretch with wind in favor. Gladiator, who had not managed to climb from the seventh place in the previous two days, took advantage of the Thai ship's error to recover a lead he would no longer give up until signing his first partial victory since June 2018. He was followed on the line of arrival by the Americans Interlodge (their best part of the week) and Quantum Racing. The combination of results allowed the Quantum Racing to take the provisional lead to the South African Phoenix, eighth in this first manga.
In view of the fourth day of competition in Galicia waters, Quantum Racing leads the provisional with two points of advantage over the German Platoon and six over the Phoenix, which ceded two positions on the most discreet day of the week (8 + 6).

The battlefield opposite the Cis Islands presented excellent conditions for navigation on the second day of the competition of the Abanca 52 Super Series Baiona Sailing Week. A new ration of two tests allowed the crews to enjoy a wind that at times reached over 20 knots of intensity, combined with little wave and a sun that cut the silhouette of the ships on the magnificent bottom of the Cis Islands.
The Turkish Providenza, who suffered the break of his stay on the first day of race, could not recover from his wounds and reduced the fleet to eight ships. The 52 Super Series monotypes race in Galician waters began their particular season, having in play in its first Spanish act, the great Abanca prize.
The first manga was clearly for the Phoenix of Hasso Platner, with the Olympic gold Tom Slingsby, the tactic of the South African ship, who was able to read better than its rivals an unpublished race field in the Circuit.
Second would end the Vayu of the Whitcraft family, the great surprise in Baiona. The Thai ship was placed at the head of the chasing group from the first step by buoy and was able to defend itself from the attacks of rivals with more experience on the circuit, signing a solid second ahead of the winner of the 2021 Series and current world champion of TP52, the American Sled, who today recovered from the helm his shipowner Takashi Okura.
The wind increased its intensity to the second sleeve of the day. This time it was going to be the Platoon of Harm Müller-Spreer who chose the right side of the field, and once again it was the winning bet but not as decisive as in the previous test, with a chasing group that kept the pressure on the leader to the end. The tandem formed by the American tactic John Kostecki and the Mallorcan strategist Jordi Calafat managed to rescue himself from the discreet fifth of the first assault with a valuable victory that allowed him to ascend to the third position of the provisional.
Behind the German ship they starred in an exciting duel for the second square the Phoenix and the Vayu that was on the side of the Thai ship for only three seconds on the finish line.
