The town of Luceni, more than 200 km from the coast, becomes this weekend the epicenter of a sport that is usually practiced at sea. From Friday to Sunday, the southern spot of the Loteta reservoir will host the Spanish Cup of inland waters in kite and kite fire mode.
Thus, on 27, 28 and 29 May, the reservoir of La Loteta will host competitors that come from different points of Spanish geography such as Andalusia, Galicia, Madrid, Catalonia, Valencia, or Basque Country, and of course Aragon. Participants from other countries such as France or Switzerland are also expected.
Thanks to the Cierzo, La Loteta is one of the few inland water locations in which it is possible to hold such events, as there are more than 200 days of wind per year in this area. In addition, with its length of 6 km long, 2 km wide and 21 km of coast, they make this reservoir a perfect place for this sport, which has already become Olympic.
The delivery of dorsal and training days will take place on Friday. The start of the competition will take place on Saturday morning, all day and until Sunday. In total, 12 mixed team races will compete to get on the podium, with the delivery of trophies on Sunday afternoon
The Spanish Cup will be possible in Luceni thanks to the support of the Government of Aragón, Provincial Council of Zaragoza, the Region of the Alta Ribera del Ebro and the City Council of Luceni. And it is sponsored by Aragon Turismo, Ambar, Trangoworld and Volkswagen.
