The image Seabin is the first floating marine container to be installed in Galicia and will collect an average of 1 to 1.4 tons of waste and more than 300,000 plastic objects per year... at the event of the start-up of the collector were present the president of the nautical, Fernando Cobián and the Commodore, Jorge Etcheverría
imagin, the CaixaBank-driven digital services and lifestyle platform, has installed a floating marine container, called Seabin, in A Coruña waters. The device has the capacity to collect 90,000 bags, 35,700 vessels, 16,500 bottles and 166,500 plastic utensils per year, and an annual average of 1 to 1.4 tons of waste. This' image Seabin ', located specifically in the Real Club Nautico da Coruña, is the first such device to be installed in Galicia.
The device works as a floating garbage container that is placed in the ports at water level and, through a low-consumption electrical system, suctions the water from the surface and it passes through a capture bag located inside it. The Seabin pump the water back into the port and leaves the waste trapped in the capture bag, which has the capacity to contain up to 20 kg of waste, macro and microplastics, microfibers and even fuel, and can be emptied several times a day.
The Seabin of A Coruña is the eighth to be installed within the framework of the 'image Seabin' project, an initiative that has already managed to collect more than one ton of plastics from the sea. The project started in October 2021 in the Port of Barcelona and over the last few months' image Seabins' have been installed in Valencia, Mahón, Getxo, Gijón, Cartagena and Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. All these cities already have the device in full operation and it is expected that, over the coming weeks, I will imagine installing Seabins in other ports of the country.
The project is articulated through imaginPlanet, the imaging program that develops products, services, content, agreements and initiatives based on sustainability to generate a positive impact on the planet and society as a whole. ImagPlanet activates projects to support its own social and environmental causes or driven by individuals or organizations to whom it is supported. The 'image Seabin' initiative is being developed in collaboration with Blue Carbon, a project that works to protect the sea, reduce CO2 emissions and mitigate the climate emergency.
imagin is a CaixaBank-driven lifestyle platform that offers digital, financial and non-financial services that help its users, mostly young people under 30, in their daily lives and future projects. It currently has a community of 3.7 million users, a steadily growing figure thanks to the wide range of content and services - much of it, free access - the ease of registration and the creation of various levels of links, which, unlike traditional banks, do not necessarily involve discharge as a financial client.
