The waters of Lake Garda have hosted a new day of the iQFoil European Championship that is being held in the Italian city of Torbole, with four new tests that confirm Pilar Lamadrid as the best Spanish in the discipline, in fourth position.
After yesterday's Slalom race session, the first day of competition, the different fleets have today sailed on barlovento / sotavento routes, with a wind that has ranged between 12 and 15 knots. With the new scores in their markers, participants take positions for the division of the fleets into Gold and Silver groups, which will come into play at the start of the Final Series.
Among the women four regatists are in gold group positions: Pilar Lamadrid, who today is fourth after a 2-6- (8) -5, dismissing the eighth position; Nicole van der Velden, who ascends two posts in the Top10 and is eighth after an 8-3-3-6; Andrea Torres, 39th; and Blanca Manchón, 42nd. They would remain in the group Plata Bárbara Winau (81st) and Julia Gómez (87th).
The male category has today had a difficult day with very tight outputs in which some approaches have occurred. Tomás Vieito continues to lead the Spanish participation in the 59 post, followed by Fernando Lamadrid, 61, and Nacho Baltasar, 62. They would not exceed the cut of the group Oro: Jorge Aranzueque, 78, Joan Carles Cardona, 88, Joan Riutert, 98, Bernat Tomas, 99, José Luis Boronat, 106, Ángel Granda, 108, Santiago Costa, 126, and Curro Manchón, 147.
The female classification is led by the title defender and world champion, the French Hélene Noesmoen, tied to points with the British Emma Wilson. France also dominates in the male category with Nicolas Goyard, also champion of the world and of Europe, as a provisional leader.

Lake Garda, Italy, has been hosting the European Championship of the new iQFoil Olympic class since tomorrow, with the participation of 14 Spanish regatists, eight of them belonging to the national pre-Olympic team.
Among the women, in addition to Pilar Lamadrid and Nicole van der Velden, pre-Olympic, are Blanca Manchón, Julia Gómez Roa, Barbara Winau and Andrea Torres.
In the male category, the headlines Ángel Granda, Fernando Lamadrid, Joan Carles Cardona, Jorge Aranzueque, Tomás Vieito and Bernat Tomás, are joined by José Luis Boronat, Nacho Baltasar, Santiago Costa and Curro Manchón.
According to the pre-Olympic regulations of the Royal Spanish Vela Federation, participation in international races such as the European and the world championship is important for the regatists who aspire to represent Spain at the Olympic Games in Paris 2024. Immerse now in the First Cycle of this regulation, the results obtained in these international citations of 2022 and in the Princess Sofia Trophy of 2023, will be the ones that mark the composition of the national team during the Second Cycle.
The races will continue until next Sunday, with the dispute of a qualifying series and a final series that will give access to the top ten classified, in male and female category, to the Medal Series.
