The GC32 Racing Tour returns to the Minor Sea in 2022
The GC32 flying catamaran circuit presents the full calendar of headquarters to be visited in 2022. After the success of its premiere in the Murcia Region last year, the GC32 Racing Tour chooses the Minor Sea to host in October the great end of an intense season that will lead the fleet to compete in five headquarters in three countries.
The GC32 Racing Tour recovers the pre-pandemic pace and presents a full calendar that will be extended from May to October by visiting headquarters that have gained the highest reputation among the fleet of GC32 flying catamarans. The circuit will visit Italy and Portugal for a double departure, and will be fired for the second consecutive season in Spain.
The 10th season of the GC32 Racing Tour will start in one of the fleet's preferred headquarters: the Italian town of Riva del Garda, in the spectacular Lago di Garda. Since 2016, its combination of hard winds and flat sea features ideal conditions for the navigation of the GC32, which will compete on the always spectacular bottom of the Dolomites in one of the most shocking images of the year. The GC32 Riva Cup will be held from 23 to 29 May.
After the opening in Italy, the GC32 Racing Tour circus will be moved to the Portuguese town of Lagos, where it will hold two consecutive events in June and July. Staying in a single headquarters saves costs and reduces logistics for equipment and organizers, with the added value of the operations center being in the heart of the Portuguese Algarve. The GC32 Lagos Cup will be held from 22 to 26 June.
After a small break to reorganize, the teams will remain in the Atlantic waters of Lagos for the GC32 World Championship, from 13 to 17 July. The GC32 is the only kind of full-crew flying catamaran recognized by World Sailing, the governing body of this sport, which gives it the possibility to celebrate its own world championship. The winner of the World Cup will register his name in the gold book of the class with the Swiss Team Tilt (2018 champion) and Alinghi (2019), and the Austrian Red Bull Racing Team (2021).
After the double session of Lagos, the fleet takes a summer break before returning to Italy to celebrate the GC32 Villaimius Cup from September 14 to 18. Located on the south-east end of Sardinia, Villaimius is a popular holiday destination thanks to its white sand beaches, turquoise waters and a mountain backdrop, as well as its protected marine area around Capo Carbonara and the Notteri pond, a popular saltwater lake for its population of pink flamingos.
In the vicinity is the Marina de Villaimius, which will again serve as a centre of operations for the GC32. In mid-September, the temperature is pleasant and the bay of Villaimius is well protected to provide a flat sea and breeze ideal for the competition of catamarans with foils. It will be the fifth time that the GC32 Racing Tour visited these waters, which hosted the World Cup in 2021.
