Much more than a training race

The Mallorca Sailing Center Regatta reaffirmed the status of Palma Bay as a world reference for the Olympic class competition. Up to 280 regatists took advantage of the three intense days of this traditional training race to familiarize themselves with the stage in which the 51 Princess Sofia Mallorca Trophy will be held.

The Greek Vasileia Karachaliou (ILCA 6), the British Matt Beckett (ILCA 7), the Spanish Jordi Xammar and Nora Brugman (470 Junta), the Poles Domonik Buksak and Szymon Wierzbicki (49er), the Brazilian Martine Grael and Kahena Kunze (FX), and the Danish Natacha Saouma- Pedersen and Mathias Bruun (Nacra), were proclaimed champions of the Majorca Sailing Center Regatta. The multitudinary pre-training race of Princess Sofia Mallorca, co-organized by the Club Nàutic S'Arenal and the Club Marítimo San Antonio de la Playa, brought together in the bay of Palma last weekend 280 crews for three days of development in competition format.

The ILCA 6 were able to complete six sleeves, the Nacra 17 seven, the ILCA 7, 49er and FX eight, and the 470 Mixed nine sleeves. They all competed in three race fields between Can Pastilla and El Arenal, confirming the success of a formula that allows the teams to train in front of their rivals but without the pressure of an accurate race for the Hempel World Cup Series as is the Princess Sofia Mallorca Trophy.

Despite its status as a training race, the Majorca Sailing Center Regatta scored as a Spanish Cup in class 470 Joint, with victory for the Xammar- Brugman tandem, followed by María Bover / Pablo García and Neus Ballester / Nacho Dávila. The test also served as a premiere for the RFEV's Iberdrola de Vela Feminina Cup, which crowned Dani Cardona in ILCA 6, Patricia Suárez / María Cantero in FX, Jordi Xammar / Nora Brugman in 470 Mixed and Iset Segura / Marcos Fernández in Nacra 17.
