World Sailing Declaration on the Situation in Ukraine

The Royal Spanish Vela Federation, following the recommendations of the Executive Committee of the IOC and the World Sailing, calls on all the organizers of sports events to take place in Spain not to admit the participation of Russian and Belarusian regatists and officials until further notice... at these very hard times that the Ukrainian people are suffering, the Sail family has to remain united and firm showing its frontal rejection of this unjust situation.
The World Sailing has joined the International Olympic Committee and world sports organizations to decide to suspend the participation of Russian and Belarusian athletes and officials in competitions and events approved by World Sailing until further notice.
With the implementation of these measures, World Sailing is supporting a united and coordinated approach within the world sports movement.
This decision is in line with the IOC Executive Committee's recommendation to preserve the integrity of competitions and ensure the safety of all participants, and has been agreed unanimously by the World Sailing Executive Committee.
We strongly urge our National Authorities, Class Associations, affiliated organizations and all event organizers to implement the measure of suspending the participation of Russian and Belarusian athletes and officials in their respective events and competitions.
When this is not possible because of the short time space or for organizational or legal reasons, World Sailing, in line with the recommendation of the IOC Executive Committee, advises event organizers to do everything possible to ensure that Russian and Belarusian athletes (either individual or equipment) and officials participate in a neutral manner, without national symbols, colors, flags or hymns.
In and out of water, our sport is united by the values of equality, inclusion, respect and equity.
We ask our sailing family to join as a sports force for good, working with us at this incredibly difficult time.
