The Castrelo de Miño reservoir was the stage the first test of the Piragüist season. The curtain of the competition was raised with the celebration of the Galician Winter Championship 2022, proof that was disputed over a distance of five thousand meters for the categories, Juvenile, Senior and Veteran.

Once again, and eight in a row, the athlete of the Breogán of O Grove Diego Romero won the title of winter champion in senior C1, ahead of his teammate Tono Campos and Fernando Busto who saw the T-shirt of the A Torres Romería Vikinga. The same fate was running Maria de la Peña del E.P. The city of Pontevedra taking the victory in the individual female canoe test, the second place would be for Jenifer Casal also of the Pontevedrés set, while Carla Sieiro del Piragüismo Poio held the third position.

In the canoe mode the winners would be Ruben Leira (Náutico Firrete) (35-39), Xoxé Vales (Ria de Betanzos) (40-44), Jesús Pérez (Piragüismo Aldán) (45-49), Rafael González (Kayak Tudense) (50-54), Marcelino Cacabelos (Breogán) (55-59).

The female classification left Yaiza Iglesias (Kayak Vigo) (35-39), María del Palacio (Piragüismo Olívico) (40-44), Monica Piñeiro (Fluvial Avión) (45-49) and Rosa Barros (Bouzas Caiac) (50-55) as victors.

Finally, Marcos Terzado del Piragüismo Vilaboa was first in the senior category of the Paracanoe modality, the second place was for Alfonso Cabeiras del Ría de Aldán and the tecer place was occupied by Juan Fernández del Ría de Betanzos. Gloria Coutillas del Fluvial Avión won senior woman and Xoana Raimundez del Piragüismo Vilaboa in Sub 23.

The winter autonomic marks the official beginning of a season that is intense in terms of the number of races that will be played throughout the year

The facilities of the Castrelo de Miño Nautical Club will host next Saturday the Galician Winter Championship over the distance of 5000 meters. The meeting will be attended by 521 palists of all categories in the forms of kayak and canoe, both male and female.

This morning, the official presentation of the event was made in the Nautic Park of the town hall of Orensen, where the vice president of the Diputación, César Fernández; the mayor of Castrelo de Miño, Avelino Pazos; the head of Sports of the Xunta, Manuel Pérez; the president and delegate for Ourense of the Galician Federation of Piragüismo, Alfredo Bea and José Manuel Fernández; and the president of the river club Avión-Castrelo de Miño, Pedro Andrés.

The youth palists, Sub 23, senior and veterans will compete from 10: 00 in the morning on a day that will end at about 7: 00 in the afternoon and an 18 exits will be made.

A total of 39 clubs will be present in Castrelo with their 363 men and 128 women. The E.P. City of Pontevedra will be the team that brings the most palists to the competition with a total of 34 registered, for its part the Ria de Betanzos will have to 31, while the Naval of Pontevedra and Fluvial of Lugo will present 29 representatives on the starting line.
