The female fleet is still led by Kahena Kunze and Martine Grael of Brazil

Penultimate day of competition of the second edition of the Lanzarote International Regatta and, after being unagitated in yesterday's day, the fleet of the 49th takes off at full speed, although with sudden wind changes. Rols that have been able to anticipate the Spanish of the 49er fleet, especially the golden couple formed by the cantabre Diego Botín and the Catalan Florian Trittel, who manage to take the leadership of the classification from the Americans Andrew Mollerus and Ian Macdiarmid.

After Botín and Trittel, another Spanish couple is imposed that manages to unbank the Germans Maximilian Stingele and Linov Scheel from the second place. They are the canary Elias Aretz and the Mallorcan Albert Torres, who advance from the seventh to the second.

Among the first is almost another Spanish couple, the canary Andrés Barrio and the Alicantino Antonio Torrado, who started third in the first race, but a confusion with the colors of the buoys delayed them.

Meanwhile, the fleet of the 49erFX remains dominated by Brazil, with Kahena Kunze and Martine Grael remaining unsurpassed in almost all races, as demonstrated in Tokyo 2020, where they conquered the gold of the class. On the other hand, the battle to take their crown is being held between Norway (with Helene NÆSS and Marie RØNNINGEN in second place) and Finland (represented by Ronja Grönblom and Veera Hokka in third place). In representation of Spain, the canaria María Cantero and the Galician Patricia Suárez fight to stay in the top 10.

Apart from the Spanish domain in the 49er race field and the Brazilian leadership among the 49erFX, it is the British who continue to be in the ILCA race field, where Elliot Hanson maintains the first, followed by his partner Michael Beckett. However, the Norwegian Hermann Tomasgaard manages to take third place on this competition day.

The Spanish team of this class, led by the Menorcan Joan Cardona and the canary Joel Rodríguez, are taking back a few posts, but now also closely followed by another Spanish, Joan Cardona, bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympic Games in the Finn class.

2022-02-16: For Nicole Van Der Velden the Lanzarote International Regatta in iQFoil Women

The ILCA6, ILCA7, 49er and 49er FX classes are in competition today

The Spanish Nicole Van Der Velden rasa in the last day, taking away the first place from the British Islay Watson, although fighting the raceous medal with the Italian Marta Maggetti. Pilar Lamadrid has also shown, getting to position himself in the top 10. It is shown that the women of the Spanish pre-Olympic team will put the bar very high in Paris 2024. The male category has dominated it until the end of the Netherlands, with Huig Jan Tak leading the classification.

The end of iQFoil begins strong, with a blur that left the wind very unstable, with rachas of between 3 and 12 knots, but that have been able to take advantage of the Spanish ones, giving special advantage to Nicole Van Der Velden, who managed to move from the fourth to the second place of the general classification during the first race of barlovento-sotavento. Since then, the regatist in Santander has dominated the whole day, but surprisingly the battle in the end was not against the British Islay Watson, but against the Italian Marta Maggetti, who has finally won second place.

In the male fleet, Holandes Huig Jan Tak has remained unstoppable, winning 4 wins of the 6 races held in Marina Rubicón. Also in yesterday's day, the Dutch regatist proved to dominate in the field of lanzaroteño regatas, with 3 victories of the 4 slalom regatas held. The British Matthew Barton managed to take the second of the Israeli Yoav Omer, however, it was his partner Tomer Vardimon who finally took the second place, followed by Italian Nicolò Renna. On the other hand, this type of racing seems not to have favored the canary Ángel Granda, who has failed to stay on top 10 to compete in the medal race.

The Lanzarote International Regatta is not over yet... we will see other classes of Olympic sailing: ILCA 6 and 7, 49er and 49er FX.

The wind arrives on the second day of the Lanzarote International Regatta, but late. The lanzarotean winds have blown soft this Sunday in Playa Blanca Bay, in front of Marina Rubicón's marina. But the regatists who compete in the Olympic class of iQFoil have enjoyed a friendly day by letting themselves be carried away by the waves and minimum wind raches that have arrived after the race has been cancelled.
