The Olympic machinery of the Royal Spanish Sailing Federation for the Games of Paris 2024 is now at full performance. Xisco Gil, technical director, and Aier Fernández, Olympic preparation director, have developed a strategic sports plan whose pillars are teamwork, the optimization of training and high-level technicians.

The main problem of this campaign is that, as Xisco Gil says: Paris has to be prepared in less than three years. Normally, after the Olympic Games there was a period of about a year in which less-level athletes were preparing to reach the Olympics, and this is a phase that does not exist this time. The Olympic Regatists in Tokyo obviously have a lot of advantage, they are reengaging with a major formation.

To optimize this short preparation time, Aier Fernández is betting on two-week training and one-week rest blocks, instead of the three consecutive weeks that were done so far. The reason for this change lies, according to the DPO, in that... reducing to two weeks, the overall training volume drops very little, but greatly decreases the likelihood of injury.
