Start 2022 with a slight improvement in the sale of boats

The closure of this first month of the year in positive respect to the fall that the nautical market experienced in January 2021 (-18%) makes us think that the next nautical season will remain positive for the sector. These are good data, especially from the charter (rental) market, which grows by 87% in a low season month, which shows that the market is being built for the next season, where the experience of nautical as a tourism option will continue to seduce (Photo Pedro Seoane)

The nautical market has closed in January 2022 with a growth of 1% in the total computation of registration of recreational boats, with 188 new records.

Of the total number of registered registrations this month, 79% are for private-use vessels and 21% for vessels intended for the nautical charter, the latter being the market that has a more vigorous behaviour, as they grow 87%, with 39 records compared to 21 January 2021.

These are the data collected in the Report on the market for recreational craft. January 2022, edited by ANEN on the basis of the data provided by the General Directorate of the Merchant Navy.

The growth of 53 per cent in medium-length enrolment, between 8 and 12 metres, followed by smaller vessels, between 6 and 8 metres, increases their records by 26.5 per cent. The rest of the segments fall from January 2021.

The good behaviour of the sailboats continues, whose enrolments grow by 24% last January of this year. It is also worth noting in growth of 62.5% of the market for semi-rigid pneumatic vessels.

Motor ships remain the most demanding (48% of the nautical market) and have a 1% increase in their enrolment.

The marked fall of the water bikes, largely due to the lack of supplies, is at -32% compared to January 2021. The folding pneumatic vessels also fall (-12%).

The rental market with a growth of 87% has 39 registered boats for this use, compared to 21 in 2021. The length between 12 and 16 meters and the sailboats are the most growing vessels in the charter market.

A trend, that of the charter, as the basis of the experience of nautical tourism that continues to scale positions between national tourism.

Andalusia maintains the highest market share (17.54%), however it has fallen -55.3% in units registered in January 2022 with respect to the same period of 2021.Le Cataluña, by market share (15.96%), which grows by 16% in registrations. Third, by market share, the Valencia Community (14.89%) is located, which grows by 34.8% on registered recreational boats, the community being the most growing. The Balearic Islands become the fourth Autonomous Community by market share (12.77%), but in this first month it starts in negative with a decrease of -14.3% in enrolments.

The Canary Islands, Madrid and the rest of the Communities are behind the market share.

In the charter market, the Valencia Community heads the rental market with 38.46% share, followed by the Balearic Islands (23%) and Andalusia (10.25%).
