World Sailing announces the incorporation of the race into the exclusive world circuit of Hempel World Cup Series Olympic classes... between 1 and 9 April, the 51 Princess Sofia Mallorca Trophy will be the first great test of the season for the teams seeking the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
The international sailing federation recovers the Princess Sofia Trophy within its world circuit of Olympic classes. The Spanish event will open the 2022 edition of the Hempel World Cup Series and will exercise the first key test in preparing for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, which guarantees a large international presence in the waters of Palma Bay.
The agreement between the Organizing Committee and the international sailing federation states that the Princess Sofia Trophy will be part of the world circuit for at least two Olympic cycles.
The Hempel World Cup Series will consist in 2022 of events in three European headquarters: Majorca (Princess Sofia Trophy, 1-9 April), Amsterdam (Allianz Regatta, 1-5 June) and Marseille (on dates still to be confirmed)... according to World Sailing, more than 1,500 regatists of 55 nationalities are called to compete for the ten qualifying classes for the 51 Princess Sofia Trophy: the female ILCA 6, 49er FX, IQ Foil and Formula Kite; the male ILCA 7, 49er, IQ and Foil and the mixed forms.
