Thai regatist Weka Bhanubandh today proclaimed himself the champion of the 70 Ciutat Trophy of Palma de Vela in the Optimist class after demonstrating his mastery in all kinds of conditions. The Asian sportsman, who traveled 9,500 kilometres to start his tour of different European races in Mallorca, won four of the six sleeves, was second in the fourth and fifth in the last one, when he was already mathematically the winner of the competition organized by the Real Club Nautico de Palma.

The Andalusian Roberto Aguilar, second classified, was at one point from the winner and made it equally clear that it was effective with very hard winds, such as those recorded yesterday, and with the average breezes that today allowed the dispute of three comfortable tests in the Bay of Palma. The third square was in the Danish Frederik Wolff, to which a black flag disqualification in the fifth test deprived him of fighting for victory until the end.

Neus García and María Teresa Martín (RCN Palma) were proclaimed champions of 29er after regaining the advantage taken by their team mates Marina Conde and Melania Henke, leaders at the end of the first day and for much of the second. García and Martín claimed their greatest regularity with a record of results that does not include any partial triumph but no arrival below the third position. The RCN Valencia crew formed by Sara and Isabel Momplet won the third place of the general.

Class ILCA 4 recorded an exciting duel for the triumph of two Majorcan regatists. Daniel Cardona, of the CN s'Arenal, and Juan Tomás Verdera, of the Club Marítimo de San Antonio de la Playa, reached the final manga practically tied in the general. The triumph was finally for Cardona by a single point of difference, after adding a second to the last race. The podium was completed by another representative of the can Pastilla club, Alberto Talens, who ended up in third position.

2021-12-06: Rachas of more than 20 knots for young regatists in the waters of Palma

The final day of the 70 Ciutat Trophy of Palma will be held tomorrow Tuesday, in which the forecast is of medium winds and something more unstable in its direction

The opening day of the 70 Ciutat Trophy of Palma, postponed to today Monday due to the excess wind, was marked by the hardness of weather conditions. The north component wind did not reach the intensity of the previous day, but it was always kept around 20 knots. However, the Regatas Committee was able to complete three Optimist tests, three ILCA 4 tests and one of 29er tests.

Tie at the top of the Optimist class classification. Roberto Aguilar, from the Nautical Maritime Club of Benalmádena, premiered in the best way in Palma and achieved three partial wins in many other completed sleeves. The champion of the last Spanish Cup of Optimist occupies the first place of the general tied to points with the Thai Weka Bhanubandh, one of the main favorites and that also won in the three trials. The third square is for Adriana Serra, from the Royal Club of Tennis and Maritime of Punta Umbria, which consisted of some 3-2-2 partials. Among the premises, the best in the premiere were Hugo Rodríguez, of the CN s'Arenal, which occupies the sixth square, and Juan Bennasar, of the RCN Palma, which ended in the tenth position.

The leader of ILCA 4 is Daniel Cardona, who was imposed in his group in two of the three sleeves in the category. The regatist of Club Nàutic s'Arenal amounts to four points in the general. He is closely followed by two athletes from the San Antonio de la Playa Maritime Club, Juan Tomás Verdera, who also achieved two partial wins and has six points, and Alberto Talens, who is third with eight points. The day was not easy for young people in the Laser class (ILCA4). The harsh conditions in the Bay of Palma caused some of the registered regatists to choose to stay on land. Those who decided to compete brought to the limit their physical capabilities and those of their ship during the more than five hours they spent at sea.

Melania Henke, a crew member with Marina Conde del 29, leads the general classification... the crews of the Royal Nautical Club of Valencia Antonio Gasperini-Antonia Schultheis and Rafael de Tomás-Elena de Tomas complete the provisional podium of 29 in second and third position, respectively.
