The Spanish candle will have a wide representation in the iQFoil European Championship, the new Olympic class of windsurfing with foils, which will be held tomorrow Saturday until next Thursday in Marseille, a city that will host the sail during the Olympic Games in Paris 2024.

Thirteen athletes, three women and ten men, will sail under the Spanish flag in a race where more than 200 windsurfers will participate representing 34 countries around the world, making this European Open a top-level test.

Among the Spanish representatives is the participation of Pilar Lamadrid, who competed for the medals in the world contest in August. The Andalusian regatist managed to qualify for the final four, but it was unhanged from the struggle for the medals due to a fall shortly to cross the exit line. In addition to Lamadrid, the female representation, with Fede Exposito as national coach, will be in Nicole van der Velden and Andrea Torres.

As for the male team, together with coach Marcos Fernández, they have come to Marseilles: Tomás Vieito, Ángel Granda, Fernando Lamadrid, Jorge Aranzueque, Bernat Tomás and José Luis Boronat. The RFEV technical team will be represented by Joan Carles Cardona, Albert Serra, Joan Riutort and Biel Lladó. It should be noted that this group will be led by the Olympic regatist Mateo Sanz, ninth in Tokyo 2020 competing for Switzerland and recently retired from high competition.
