The Royal Maritime Club of the Abra-Real Sporting Club receives the Docomomo plate

The Board of Directors of the Delegation in Bizkaia of the Official College of Architects of the Basque-Navarro (1975) selected the building of the Real Club Marítimo del Abra- Real Sporting Club, designed by the architects Eugenio María de Aguinaga Churruca, present at the event, and Iñigo Eulate Soriano (1975), among the buildings that appear in the Industrial Records, Housing and Equipment of the Iberian Domomo for the placement on Monday, 4 October, on the World Day of Architecture, of a plaque distinctive of the importance of that Social Building granted by the Foundation for the Non-Domomo (Foundation for the Conservation). This event was attended by, among others, Eugenio Mª de Aguinaga Churruca, the president of the Maritimo Ramón Zubiaga, the Vice President Manuel Sendagorta, members of the Board and ex-presidents of the Club such as Ramón Zubiaga - padre -, José Luis Ribed, Javier-varri and Gerardo Teijeira, as well as members of the architect, and the president of the delegation in Bizkaia of COAVN Aier Benavides and other members of its Board.

The Docomomo plates - acronym of the International Foundation for the Documentation, Valuation, Dissemination and Conservation of the Historical Heritage of the Architecture and Urbanism of the Modern Movement - internationally demonstrate the heritage value of the building where they are placed as in the Royal Maritime Club of the Abra - Real Sporting Club. The Domomomo Foundation was founded in Paris in 1990, and was organized in 1994 with headquarters in Barcelona as Domomomo Ibérico, which integrates the study of the architecture of Spain and Portugal of that period.

The placement of information plates is a call for attention to the 20th century heritage, a heritage whose fragility requires special attention. In fact, the new modern buildings that began to be built in 1925 in Spain and Portugal not only experienced new programs and forms, but they did so with new materials and technologies, which were not tested until then. Their updating and compliance with current regulations have sometimes resulted in a decline in the property values of these buildings.

On the other hand, since it is an extensive and very recent heritage, it is not valued by society and the administrations responsible for its protection. With the placement of plates in paradigmatic buildings of the modern architecture of the 20th century such as that of the Club de Las Arenas, it is intended to transfer to society and its representatives the importance of this heritage and to value it as part of our culture of the 20th century, in order to achieve its heritage protection and conservation.

After placement at10 hours in the Housing Building on the Calle Ercilla nº 43 in Bilbao (Year of construction: 1938.
