The federal sailing licences in Spain.
For the participation in official competitions at the state or international level, or in those at the autonomous level which are classified directly to compete in the former, it is necessary to be in possession of the corresponding licence issued or authorized by the Royal Spanish Vela Federation. It is the document that attests the registration in the Royal Spanish Federation of Vela and that allows to participate in the official competitions that it organizes and how many other rights are established in the Statutes of the RFEV, as well as other federal rules. All crew members of any Spanish-flagged ship in Spain shall be entitled to a Spanish licence. In addition, all crew members of any foreign flag ship competing for a Spanish Club must be entitled to a Spanish licence.
The RFEV provides for two licensing options: the State, issued by the Royal Spanish Vela Federation and the autonomous authorized, which will be issued by the Autonomous Federations, according to the RFEV. The types of sailing licences are as follows:

- Youth (15-18 years)
- Children (8-15 years)
- Judge's leave
- Technical License
- Board of Directors

All licensed licences must have compulsory insurance as referred to in Article 59.2 of the Sports Act (€6,000 for health care abroad, €10,000 to €20,000 for death or disability, unlimited medical-surgical assistance).
The costs of the federal licences issued by the autonomous federations are as follows in the 2016 season:
