The 49th European Championship is closed in the waters of Thessaloniki, Greece, with a 13th as the best result among the Spanish youth teams

The 49th European Championship has ended today in Thessaloniki, Greece, with the crew of Andrés Barrio and Antonio Torrado as the best classified of the Spanish team, in place 13. Martin Wizner and Pablo García, and Albert Torres and Elías Aretz, the other two who managed to get into a gold group, have been 16th and 18th respectively.

The Spanish crews, all of them young and belonging to the team of young promises that the RFEV launched months ago for Paris 2024, have fought until the last moment on the top of the table, counting until yesterday with the duo Barrio / Torrado to a step from the Top10. But the last day, with two difficult trials, disputed with very unstable winds, did not result in the best day for either of them.

The title of European champions has been for Poles Staniul and Sztorch, ahead of Germans Fisher and Graf, and Poles Przybytek and Kolodzinski. In 49er FX, where the Spanish Elena Barrio was sailing next to the French Alicia Fras (30th), the first place was for the Dutch Aanholt and Ruyter. And in Nacra 17, without a national presence, the champions of Europe are the British Gimson and Burnet.

Three of the five crews of the Spanish team that is competing in the 49er European Championship will sail from tomorrow in the gold group, facing the fight to enter the Medal Race from posts 7, 10 and 13 of the general.

The Spanish teams displaced with the RFEV to Greece to participate in the European of 49er have today given the breast to get for the most part three out of five, to be classified among the 25 crews that make up the gold group. The results that close in positive and with good note the first objective of our regatists in this championship.

The national squadron is headed by Andrés Barrio and Antonio Torrado who today have signed excellent 3-2-2 partials, leading them to the seventh position of a Top10 that close their compatriots Martin Wizner and Pablo García Portela. In place 13 are Albert Torres and Elías Aretz, who have also today been pleased to be on a partial podium with a second place.

In the silver group there are Pol and Alex Marsans, and Rafael de la Hoz and José Ruiz, 30 and 45 of the joint classification.

There are still three days of competition in the final phase, for which eight tests and Medal Race are scheduled. The expected conditions are similar to those they have had so far, with average winds of between 6 and 10 knots and a difficult field of races, marked by changes in wind intensity and small roles.

The team's morale is high and with a great desire to do it well and to continue to show that they can be ahead, between crews of the size of the Poles Przybtek / Kolodzinski or the Germans Fisher / Graf, first and second of the general, with much more experience in international competitions.

From tomorrow Tuesday until Sunday 19, the Greek waters of Thessaloniki host the 49th, FX and Nacra 17 classes of absolute European Championship, in which Spain will be represented by five crews in the 49th category.

The teams that have come to the Greek meeting are made up of the balar Albert Torres and the canary Elías Aretz; the Catalans Pol and Alex Marsans; the Gallegos Martin Wizner and Pablo García Portela; the canary Andrés Barrio and the Valencian Antonio Torrado; and the bats Rafa de la Hoz and José Manuel Ruíz, all of them belonging to the team of young promises and included in the youth program of the RFEV.
