The president of the Royal Galician Federation of Vela, Manuel Villaverde, accompanied by his counterpart of the Canary Federation of Vela, Rafael Bonilla, today announced at the federal headquarters of Bouzas that the final international phase of the I Regata de la Mujer will be held in the Arousa Ria, from 24 to 26 September. The Galego de Vela Centre will be the base of the twenty-four regatists that will compete.
The meeting will consist of a total of six crews, two of them representing Galicia and the Canarias, where the autonomous phases (won by the Real Nautical Club of Vigo and the Real Nautical Club of Gran Canaria, respectively) were held, and the others at the invitation of the organizer, the RFGV. A team will come from Portugal, in addition to regatists from Asturias, Catalonia and the Valencia Community, the latter to be confirmed.
The crews will compete on Elliott 6M, Olympic ships in London 2012. With them they sailed the real nautical clubs of Vigo, Sanxenxo and Coruña, the also real Club Mar de Aguete, the Club Marítimo de Canido and the Vertigo Crew, east of Punta Lagoa. The Náutico conquered the Galician phase with Carlota Hernández (patrona), Alejandra Suárez and Pilar Amaro of RCN Vigo, and Rosario García (Marítimo de Canido) and Paula Correa (RCN Coruña). In the Canary Islands, the competition took place in a fleet of Ideal 18, with three crew members each. Patricia Reino, Martina Reino and Carlota Sánchez won the best of the Spanish women's sailing and with European projection. In the Arousan ria they will have a fourth component.
