The Snipe class is one of the oldest in the light sail, which broke into Spain with much force in the 1940s, with the first Spanish snipes being the Viguese Toñete of Antonio Ruiz and the number 1 fleet of the Royal Nautical Club of Vigo.

The Vizcaina waters of the Abra in Getxo will become a sailing party this first weekend of September, the best return of the holidays. A thirty snipes will sail in two days, in the I Trophy Fhimasa Juan Manuel Alonso- Allende.
The race is included in the National Circuit of Snipe. The first departure on Saturday 4 September will be at 13: 00, while on Sunday the tests will start from 12: 00.
Juan Manuel Alonso-Allende, who was president of the Real Sporting Club and the Real Federación Española de Vela, was born on December 8, 1918 and died in 1984. Regist, sports director and naval engineer, the athlete of the Club de Las Arenas won Spanish championships in different sailing classes over three decades and participated in the Olympic Games in London in 1948 (19th in Firefly), in Rome 1960 (11th in the Flying Dutchman class) and in Mexico 1968 (18th in the Star class). His greatest success was the so-called Snipe World Championship he won in Cascais (Portugal) in 1957 with Gabriel Laiseca, the first Spanish to do so. He also played in the Spanish Championship of this class Snipe in Vigo (1942) with his brother José María as patron, in addition to 1956 and 1957. In the Star class he was Spanish champion in 1943, 1945, 1947, 1966, 1967 and 1968.
