The Viguese shipyard Sons of J.Barreras, with the launch of the ship "Reforma Pemex," the flotel commissioned by the Mexican oil company Pemex, has become the world's largest specialist in the construction of ships for assistance to offshore platforms. The project commissioned by the PMI, has been designed entirely in Vigo, and has a length of 131 meters and a capacity of accommodation for about 700 people.

The "Reforma Pemex" is the fourth flotel built in the world and the second made in Sons of J. Barreras, which in 2011 delivered Edda Fides, the first ship made as a residential base and logistical support to oil platforms on the high seas. This order consolidates the Viguese naval builder as the world's largest specialist in this type of assistance craft for offshore platforms.

The ship after the launch carried out the work of enabling and equipping, over 10 months. The total construction period has lasted about 29 months. It is the first fully designed motel in Vigo by Barreras. With a length of 131 meters and a sleeve of 27, it will have cabins to accommodate 608 passengers and 91 crew, representing a total capacity of almost 700 people. The ship shall be equipped with a dynamic positioning system of the highest level that will allow it to maintain a fixed position at sea with great precision even in adverse weather conditions.

The design includes the installation of two cranes, each with an elevation capacity of 15 tons to a height of 20 meters, and also has an offshore heliport and telescopic gateway for the transfer of personnel between the ship and the oil platform. This structure shall operate in an automated manner, minimizing the effect of the movements that the ship supports due to the state of the sea or wind. The interior spaces for the service of the on-board staff include changing rooms, two laundry rooms, workshops, reception and video room, conference room, various living rooms, offices, gym, sauna, recreation room, three TV rooms (one with capacity for 80 people), two cinema rooms (with capacity for more than 60 people each), a six-bed nursing room, medical consultation room and recognition room, kitchen and gamboza of provisions.

The ship is equipped with a hybrid propulsion system (diesel- electric) designed to provide high levels of redundancy, safety and operativity, even in case of failure. It consists of two 2700 kW azimutal propellants each, two 1500 kW transverse propellants and a 1500 kW retractable forward propellant. The electrical power will be supplied by six main generating groups of 2700 kW each. The ship shall comply with the most stringent shipbuilding regulations. In particular all safety, on-board comfort levels and pollution prevention.
