The International Olympic Committee has informed World Sailing that the IOC Executive Commission has approved the Men & apos; s and Women & apos; s Kiteboarding (Formula Kite) for the Paris 2024 Olympic Sailing Competition.

The events of Kiteboarding Male and Female will replace the events of Kiteboarding Joint and Offshore Joint that were democratically selected by the members of World Sailing and remained the first-choice events of the international sailing federation for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

In December 2020, IOC informed World Sailing that a further review of the Offshore Joint event would be carried out to properly assess key considerations.

Other IOC updates in April 2021 specified that the proposal was still being revised, in line with the approach taken for other sports, and highlighted the challenges for the existing offshore joint event in the field security areas, the scope and complexity, the cost and complexity of the transmission, and the fact that World Sailing did not have the opportunity to offer an Offshore World Championship.

As the IOC's final assessment of the Joint Offshore Event continued, World Sailing was asked to present proposals for alternative events for the tenth sailing medal at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.

The World Sailing Council approved the Kite (Kite Formula) and the Male and Female Dynghy (470) as the first and second alternative event proposal after its mid-year meeting in 2021.
