The only Spaniards who have won The Ocean Race join Viva Mexico

Viva Mexico is gathering in its crew a true constellation of Spanish galactics in The Ocean Race Europe. Joan Vila has just confirmed that he will sail with the Mexican team, which is one of the seven VO65 teams participating in this ocean race back to Europe, to perform the third and final stage that will leave on Sunday from Alicante and will take the fleet to Genoa, after his departure from Lorient on May 29.
Vila joins a crew whose guard heads are the Galician Chuny Bermudez de Castro and Jaime Arbones, who curiously debuted in The Ocean Race sharing crew with Vila in the Galicia Pescanova in the 1993-94 edition, although Vila had a previous experience in 1989- 90.
In addition, Chuny Bermudez de Castro and Joan Vila are the only two Spanish regatists who have won The Ocean Race in the almost 50 years of the history of the race back to the world by teams and scales, with the Abu Dhabi in 2014- 15 and with the Illbruck in 2000- 01 respectively.
On board Viva Mexico, the Gallegos Chuny Bermudez de Castro, Libio Arbones and Miguel Fernández, the Catalans Juan Vila and Carlos Robles, as well as the Mexican patron Erik Brockmann, the Mexicans Juan Varela and Juan Luis Medina, the Argentine Eugenia Bosco, the Italian Nadir Balena, the Austrian Moritz Spitzauer and the American Jen Edney as OBR.
