Spain SailGP Team is first placed in the general ranking of SailGP finishing second in Taranto, behind the Nipon champion

The F50 Victoria has prayed for glory by entering its first SailGP final. It has been in the Italian Grand Prix, which has been held over the weekend in Taranto, as it is second and most important, as leader of the general classification.

Being a leader of the general classification is a very important indication of the incredible evolution of the team, the youngest in the competition, which faces great figures in the sailing world with much more experience in the management of these ships.

The Spanish team was able to qualify for the great final in front of Japan and the United States, after a very intense day in which it has first dealt with the French and then with the New Zealanders to be able to end up among the first three. The light wind, of about ten knots, has again marked the day in Italian waters with an uneasy navigation.

Finally, Japan would end up imposing on the Taranto event, with Nathan Outteridge on the cane. The F50 Victoria began with a penalty for exceeding the departure line a second before time. This caused the Spaniards to have to go back and forth, getting to be placed seconds after the third stretch with the abandonment of the United States due to a failure, and fighting in a real match race against Japan. However, the advantage of the Asian ship in the last stretch was impossible to recover, entering the F50 Victoria in a second place.

The next event, in which Spain SailGP Team will have the honour of leaving as leader of the general, will take place on July 17 and 18 in Plymouth waters (Great Britain)

2021 / 06 / 05: The F50 Victoria is third in Taranto after the United States and Japan

The weather forecasts of little wind were fulfilled in this first day and only 9 knots of intensity were exceeded; which caused the race to be very complicated to manage by the crews, due to the danger of falling into wells - areas without vision -... there were times when these ships, used to exceeding 40 or 50 knots of speed, were sailing at just 20

Great start of the F50 Victoria in the second race of the SailGP season, which is held this weekend in the waters of Taranto (Italy). The team patronized by Phil Robertson is the third in the general position after the three-test dispute, overtaken only by the United States by Jimmy Spihill and Japan by Nathan Outteridge, who head the table, both with 21 points for the 17 of Spain.

France is fourth to 4 points of the podium posts that will give access to the great end of this Sunday. In the past, two tests will be held to determine the three teams that will fight for the title in the Italian Grand Prix.

This caused the ships to change their configuration from five to three crew members. In the Spanish case, those chosen by the coach, Xabi Fernández, were Phil Robertson (cane), Florian Trittel (wing timer) and Diego Botin (flight controller) who also assumed the grinder function as less crew on board.

2021 / 06 / 03: The SailGP Circuit arrives in Europe with the Italian Grand Prix in Taranto

In the current season of the SailGP circuit are competing eight teams, which together with the Spanish are: Australia, Denmark, United States, Great Britain, France, Japan and New Zealand

The SailGP Circuit takes the leap to Europe with the celebration on 5 and 6 June of the Italian Grand Prix in the waters of Taranto... following the premiere of the 2021-2022 season in Bermuda, the great sailing show reaches the old continent with strength.

The F50 Victoria, the Spanish team of SailGP, will do so after getting a meritorious fourth place in the April trial in Hamilton in Bermuda, and staying at the gates of the final. The Italian Grand Prix will be the third of the events in which the F50 Victoria took part, following the one in Sydney in 2020 and Bermuda in 2021, and will be the first time it does so on the European continent.

After the good performance in the two previous events, the F50 Victoria is again prepared, with a very competitive team and with the clear objective of improving the two-quarter positions achieved in the previous events... it will repeat almost the same crew that participated in the Great Sound of Bermuda. The Olympic Florian Trittel and Diego Botin will fight their last race before concentrating on the Tokyo Olympic Games. The rest of the team are Phil Robertson, Antonio Ñeti Cuervas- Mons, Mateu Barber, Lucas Trittel and Andrea Emone, along with Xabi Fernández as coach.
