Spain will be present in Tokyo in the ten Olympic sailing disciplines, pending for the next days the designation of the regatist to represent us in the Finn class

Emotion until the last minute at the Finn Gold Cup 2021 that closes with Joan Cardona as the world's subchampion and the classification of Spain for the Tokyo Olympic Games in the Finn class, so our country will be present in the ten sailing disciplines that will take part in the Olympics this summer.

It has been an atypical and difficult World Championship, dominated by the weather conditions that even prevented the celebration of the scheduled races during two days. For the day of closure the conditions have again been marked by the loose wind and the formed sea, with three contested races that have kept the classification in hand until the last moment.

After starting the championship in second position, Joan Cardona finished yesterday the fourth day, second day of races, in fourth place, at one point from the podium, eleven from the leader and keeping Spain as the first country on the list of unclassified European nations, six points from the Croatian Nenad Bugarin, fifth of the general.

The adrenaline was up when Joan Cardona finished third in the first manga and a 15 of the leader, New Zealand Andy Maloney, was up to the first position of the provisional. And the table was pressed with 32 points for Cardona, 33 for Maloney, 34 for Berecz and 39 for Bugarin in fourth position.

The second test of the day put Maloney in the first position and left Cardona two points away from the victory, with five of Spain's advantage over Croatia in the European fight for the Olympic Square.

The final time came and Bugarin and Cardona were in a live red fight in the last and final manga, with the result of a 28 for Spanish and a 31 for Croatian. They both ruled out these positions, the worst ones obtained during the championship, and Cardona used a more balanced partial to get the second place in the general classification, while Bugarin ended up in fifth position. The second Spanish, Pablo Guitián, closes the Top10 with the tenth place, while Alejandro Muscat is 16.

Spain thus put, after a hard and exciting championship, the missing stamp on the Olympic class passport for the Tokyo Olympic Games, and Joan Cardona celebrated the world's subchampionship as one of the youngest patterns in history to achieve it, at 22.

After this double success and with the Tokyo Olympic Games as the next date just over ten weeks, the Royal Spanish Vela Federation will in the coming days designate the regatist of the Finn class who becomes part of the Spanish Olympic sailing team, the ESP Sailing Team.

Joan Cardona continues as the top Spanish representative after adding 11 + 5 + 10, partial that place him in the fourth position only one point from the third ranked, New Zealand Josh Junior, and ten from the leader, also New Zealand Andy Maloney. The provisional podium is completed by the Hungarian Zsombor Berecz, second.

In addition to remaining in the struggle for the medals, the balear regatist has managed to close the day with a six-point income on the Croatian Nenad Bugarin, fifth classified and first direct rival in the classification of countries that opt for the last Olympic ticket.

In the eighth position of the general there has been the Andalusian Pablo Guitian, who, despite having started the day with a 4, has added a 27 (which is discarded) and a 15 in the following two races. For his part, Catalan Alex Muscat has signed his worst partials from the entire championship and goes down to position 17.
