Cabo Creus in Girona, a paradise for sustainable sports fishing.
Cabo Creus in Girona, a paradise for sustainable sports fishing.
The Cape of Creus is a spectacular special place with great beauty. It can be considered very interesting from a cultural point of view, with ancient monasteries, castles and charming villages; with a protected fauna and vegetation in the Natural Park of Cap de Creus.
The most eastern point of the peninsula is also one of the best fishing regions. For this, the first thing we have to bear in mind is that we are in a space with special protection. Although you can fish in the area of the natural park and partial nature reserve, you cannot do it in the Integral Natural Reserve of Encalladora Island. If we fish from the ground, we will not be able to do so either in the partial natural reserve areas, as to access the coastal line we would have to cross the entire natural reserves.
The Cape of Creus is a reguero of small coves and cliffs, formed by the erosion produced by the Tramontana, the strong wind that on many occasions will prevent us from fishing, but on others it will lead to a great activity that we must take advantage of. It is those moments of calm after a time when we can find lubines and other species closer to the coast, hoping to collect all that the waves have taken off or displaced. The central town and one of the most tourist is Cadaqués. In addition to being the most eastern town, its old town, its fishing port and its special light inspired Dalí (whose house has become a visited museum) and also inspire the fisherman to start a route north or south of the Cape in search of the corner where to throw the cane.
From the road that leads from Cadaqués to the lighthouse of Cape Creus we can find some coves where to tempt the lubines to surfcasting. In the north, avoiding the land-inaccessible area, we will approach Port de La Selva. Here we can try your port or the beach, or move eastward and find some good cove. The whole area is great for the lubines, either in depth, cork (an alternative that will prevent us from getting hooked) or spinning.
To the south of Cadaqués we will find "something" more calm and with more minitalla. In addition to lubines, we can find the always present sargos among a multitude of possibilities, such as anjovas or palometones. Even Roses will find different coves and corners to try, some with difficult access, but perhaps for that reason the most attractive.
