The Spanish team of 49er once again proved to be a clear candidate for the Olympic medal

The day of closing of the race of the Royal Maritime Club of Santander, the Santander Test Event for 49er and Nacra 17 with the sponsorship of the Harbour Authority, of the capital Cantabra has not been disappointed.

The 49er class was prepared to perform the three scheduled tests and so was, with the first quadrant wind between 5 and 10 knots of intensity. The body-to-body struggle between the Burling- Tuke double Olympic medal kiwi and those of the ESPSailing Team, Botin- López Marra, has been in favour of the RCMS pattern, which managed to finish two of the three races ahead of the great favorite.

If the first box of the podium remains intact - regarding the day of fasting - with Dunning and Gunn commanding, the silver falls into the hands of Diego Botín and Iago Ópez- Marra and the bronze in Burling and Tuke.

The races of the day were for the New Zealanders Dunning- Gunn, the Germans Heil- Plöbel and the Spanish youth Albert Torres and Elias Aretz who closed the Santander Test Event with a valuable partial victory.

2021-05-06: Quality and emotion at all levels of Santander's Test Event in 49er and Nacra17

Show and maximum action in the Bay of Santander with the top of the Olympic candle, on a day dominated by the medium-strong wind that has made the delights of spectators

The show was served with four races for the Nacra17 class and three for the 49er in wind conditions that, in the first part of the day, have grazed the 16 knots inside Santander Bay. The technical team of the Real Club Marítimo has been used in depth, with a series of races in which the small changes of route have been to the agenda.

The first to start the competition was that of the Nacra 17 flying ships, which showed action to the maximum. It was the Danish team of Cenholt and Lübeck who managed to take the cat into the water and first place on a very regular day (with partials of 3,4,9,5) and moving until yesterday leader Gibbs-Weis to the second square, even though the Americans won the first test of the day.

The Spanish tandem Pacheco-Trittel put all the meat on the roast and obtained its reward, with a very heavy duel in the first race in which they scored a second, followed by a 10th, 2nd and 11th.
With this, Tara Pacheco and Florian Trittel, and in wind conditions in which they seemed to feel very comfortable, go up a position and place rooms at one point in the bronze of the Germans Kohlfohh and Stuhlemmer.

Diego Botín and Iago López Marra started the day with a first one that made them tie in the lead with Burling and Tuke. From that moment on, the struggle between Spanish and New Zealanders was already in the face of a dog.

If in the first he won Botín and played Burling, in the second he was the opposite and in the third a direct confrontation between Spaniards and those of the antipods. This struggle was also taken advantage of by the Dunning- Gunn kiwis to assault the podium.
