Silver for boys and fourth place for girls in Vilamoura

The 470 European Championship today closed its race program in Vilamoura waters with a day marked by a lack of wind, with only six knots of intensity that, far from favoring a fair end on a date of this magnitude, has put the fleet in a tight spot in the most important test of the Championship, the Medal Race.

The Spanish Olympic team, the ESP Sailing Team, closes with silver medal for Jordi Xammar and Nicolás Rodríguez, on a day that has been difficult for all. Xammar and Rodríguez were going out in the water with clear accounts: a first place in front of a last of the French would give them the gold, the silver had to be fought with the Swedes that left tied to points and with the same possibilities. The Swiss were too far to enter the equation and New Zealand, which was second, played another war.

The girls were jumping into the field with a Top10 in which the Spanish Silvia Mas and Patricia Cantero were located second, ten points from the French Lecointre and Returnaz. On the back, the Swiss Fahrni and Siegenthaler were three points away from the Spanish and the British Mills and McIntyre pointed to the fight for the medals at a point in the Swiss.

All the possibilities were open for Mas and Cantero after a third-place championship to place leaders on the second day, as they would defend until yesterday's day. Silvia and Patricia faced this Medal Race with desire and willing to give it all to reach the gold, but a difficult way out because of the lack of wind and a struggle to find the best position to face the race led them to the worst nightmare of a regatist: the Committee marked two boats off-line.

2021 / 05 / 06: Xammar and Nico Rodríguez guarantee medal in the 470 European Vilamoura

The Catalan-Galaic tandem has been secured metal in Lusitian waters

The 470 European Championship is ready for trial following the last fleet race today, having only on schedule the Medal Races to be held tomorrow Friday and to which the two crews of the ESP Sailing Team, the Spanish Olympic sailing team, Silvia Mas and Patricia Cantero and Jordi Xammar and Nicolás Rodríguez, both from the second position in the European, second and third of the general in female and male, respectively.

After the French, the New Zealanders Snow- Hansen and Willcox are second in the classification, while fourth and tied to points with the Spanish are the Swedish Dahlberg and Bergström.

Silvia Mas and Patricia Cantero today added a 7-8 that prevented them from maintaining the position of leaders who since the second day of the championship had been defending among the girls. This position will force Spanish women to redouble their efforts tomorrow in the final race, but it does not close possibilities to Spanish women in a classification that reaches the Medal Race very tight and with medal options open up to the fourth position of the classification.

The two teams of the National Sports Tecnification Plan that have participated in the category 470 Joint close the European Championship to the edge of the Continental Top20. Finally, it has been the Baleares María Bover (RCN Palma) and Fernando Rodríguez (CN Arenal) that have achieved the best position with the European position 20, 21 of the general, while the Catalans Nacho Dávila (CN El Balis) and María Gonzalez (CN El Balís) end with 22 and 23 respectively.

2021 / 05 / 05: ESP Sailing Team remains in the head group in the 470 European

The two Spanish couples are still on a high level... and the girls are leaving.

I am a bit more cheerful today in Vilamoura and a short wave-spicy race field to fight the fourth day of the 470 European Championship, in which Silvia Mas and Patricia Cantero keep leaders of the female fleet and Jordi Xammar and Nicolás Rodríguez scratching points to, keeping the third position of the European, tie with the second.

The races began today a little later than usual in the waters of Vilamoura, accompanied by a wind that has exceeded the ten knots of intensity but not over the twelve, helping to save the short wave that today spilled the Portuguese coast. They were thus, and again, difficult conditions under which two tests have been disputed in each mode to close the day with a positive balance for the Spanish fleet.

On the part of Silvia Mas and Patricia Cantero, a 6-7 keeps the crew of the ESP Sailing Team, the Spanish Olympic team, as leader of the general classification with the French Lecointre and Returnaz at bay, from which they are separated 4 points. On the third step of the podium, the Swiss Fahrni and Siegenthaler continue, which, far from being a threat, are reinforced with two third parties to cut points from the head of the table.

For the Catalan duo-Galician the 8-3 harvested today not only means to stay in the third position of the European Championship and fifths of the general, but also to spider points regarding the second step of the continental podium, in the hands of the Swedes Dahlberg and Bergström, with whom they are tied to points.

The position of leader is now taken by the French Peponnet and Mion, who outnumber the New Zealanders Snow- Hansen and Willcox, after they lost positions on the last sleeve after a situation committed and too close to the Spanish ship.

And again changes in the positions of the Spanish crews of the group Junta, today being that of Nacho Dávila and María González who takes the lead, standing at position 17 of the general, 16 in the European, while María Bover and Fernando Rodríguez move to the 23rd position. In the head of this fleet, the Israelites Hasson and Tamir remain, almost without hesitation.

2021 / 05 / 04: Girls hold in Vilamoura, while boys go down to fifth place

El viento ha sido de nuevo protagonista en Vilamoura por su falta de intensidad, castigando a la flota en las dos regatas sumadas a los marcadores del Campeonato de Europa de 470 (Fotos Joao Costa-Osga)

The wind has once again been a protagonist in Vilamoura for its lack of intensity, punishing the fleet in the two races added to the markers of the 470 European Championship (Joao Costa- Oga photos)

The wind has remarked the pattern in the Vilamoura race field, testing the strategic capacity of the crews for their low intensity and direction changes. In this context, the Spanish Olympic teams of the ESP Sailing Team have had a lot of fun, more benevolent for Silvia Mas and Patricia Cantero who leave the day and are still at the front of the table, and less pious with Jordi Xammar and Nicolás Rodríguez who go down to the third step of the European podium.

The conditions have forced the fleet to wait to take out the first test of the day, in which a few 7-8 knots of wind have allowed few errors. Silvia Mas and Patricia Canterohave had to deal with their own, but their good partials so far have allowed them to scroll the 16 of the first sleeve, and a second position on the next one has again highlighted their nature as champions to keep one more day at the forefront of the classification. After them, at three points, the French are continuing the Lecointre and Returnaz, in which it can become a duel to two over the next few days as the third position changes its hands again adding, to this instability, a difference of 14 points to the second.

In the male fleet, Jordi Xammar and Nicolás Rodríguez have suffered the punishment of the wind. In conditions that are not suitable for the Spanish team, today's results amount to 11 and 12 to their partials that lead them to the third position of the European Championship, whose leadership leaves in the hands of the French Peponnet and Mion, followed by the Swiss Wagen and Siegwart. The General Open classification remains dominated by New Zealanders Snow- Hansen and Willcox, with a fifth place for Xammar and Rodríguez.

Excellent day in 470 Joint for the baleares María Bover and Fernando Rodríguez who have signed a provisional podium in the second test of the day with a third place, which catapult them from the 28 position they occupied yesterday to the 20, two points ahead of the second Spanish team, that of the Catalans Nacho Dávila and María González. The Israelites Hasson and Tamir remain one more day as leaders of the modality.

2021 / 05 / 03: Double Spanish leader in the 470 European Championship in Lusian waters

Silvia Mas y Patricia Cantero se alzan líderes del Campeonato de Europa entre las féminas y Jordi Xammar y Nicolás Rodríguez mantienen la primera posición continental con los neozelandeses dominando la clasificación general Open

Silvia Mas and Patricia Cantero rise leaders of the European Championship between the women and Jordi Xammar and Nicolás Rodríguez maintain the first continental position with the New Zealanders dominating the general classification Open

Second day of the 470 European Championship, in which the crews of the ESP Sailing Team, the Spanish Olympic sailing team, have again shone with results that allow a double leadership: Silvia Mas and Patricia Cantero as the first of the absolute classification, and Jordi Xammar and Nicolás Rodríguez maintaining the first European position, seconds of the general behind the New Zealanders.

Also in these conditions the progression of the female crew of Silvia Más and Patricia Canterohas been brilliant, with two third positions that have allowed them to overcome in the general classification their rivals, with the highest in their partials, ascending from the third to the first position. The Spanish have two points of advantage over the French Lacointre and Returnaz, while on the third step of the podium the Brazilian Oliveira and Barbachan have now signed two first positions. The British Mills and McIntyre, the second and great rivals of the Spanish, are going to the sixth place after accumulating today a 17 and an 11.

Jordi Xammar and Nicolás Rodríguez have fought against the low wind by adding a fifth and a seventh in their partials, against a seventh and a second by Snow- Hansen and Willcox. This has allowed New Zealanders to overcome them by two points in the general ranking of the championship that is open to the participation of regatists from any country, without affecting their leadership in the struggle for the European title. Third in discord, two points from the Spanish, are today the Australians Belcher and Ryan, leaving fourth to the Swedes Dahlberg and Bergström.

In these circumstances, Jordi Xammar was happy and optimistic after overcoming the inconvenience of the day: "It was a strategically complicated day because we had the struggle between the gradient and the thermal wind and it was hard to try to guess what was going to happen, but even with that difficulty we have been there and we are still first in the European, so we are happy."

In 470 Junta, the Catalans Nacho Dávila and María Gonzalez maintain the 22 position of the general, while the baleares María Bover and Fernando Rodríguez have had worse results with these wind conditions down to the 28th position of a table that is still led by the Israelites Hasson and Tamir.
