After the six tours, in which the Abra was repopulated of tens of small boats in a beautiful picture that was missed, Daniela and Paula Voss Diaz- White in the FEVA class - the absolute victors of the Trophy - were imposed; Jaime Framis and Miguel Antona in 420; Nicolás Viar and Silvia Marcé in Snipe; Marco Espinosa in ILCA 4; and Silvia Conde in ILCA 6. The Regatists of the Optimist Class could not compete for the restrictions.

The FEVA class was dominated by Daniela and Paula Voss, who were made with the first square by showing a great regularity in the half-dozen tours scheduled by the committee: four first positions, a second and a third. The regatists of the host club ended up in front of their fellow RCMA-RSC Aier Carreira and Anna Katharina, and the Asterians Covadonga Fernández and Carmen Simal. In addition, Jaime Framis and Miguel Antona won in 420 with three first positions and two seconds after subtracting the discard, with the second Mikel Peña and the second Manex Albisu and the third Igor Atxiaga and Pablo Zeron.

In Snipe, the couple of the organizing club formed by Nicolás Viar and Silvia Marcé noted the triumph, in this return of the competition, in the Snipe class. They totaled 8 points in the six tests, for the 14 of Peru and Joana Abásolo, and the 15 of Tomas Trueba and Borja Montero, and also of Manolo Rey-Baltar and Borja Reig. Almost a hundred regatists of Basque and Asturian clubs, in compliance with all the security measures, were seen at noon, with the desire to sail and prepare their boats, in the ironing of the Club de Las Arenas before leaving for the interior Abra to dispute the first routes with variable wind of a southern component.

On a Saturday almost summer - 25 degrees of temperature - only the representatives of the lower categories of the Optimist class, who are still not allowed to compete for their age, were missing.

After the first day, Daniela and Paula Voss lead the FEVA class with two first positions and a third, being the most regular in the opening of one of the most important championships of the Cantabrian.

On the other hand, Nicolás Viar and Silvia Marcé were the first leaders in the Snipe class, while Jaime Franis and Miguel Antona are at the top of the classification in the 420 class. In addition, Paul Emezabal was the first to win his tour in class ILCA 4 and Martin Bueno in class ILCA 6. This Sunday, from 11.30 a.m., the second and final day of the 19th Trophy José Luis Azqueta of light sail, the first official competition in this specialty that is held in the Vizcaina waters of the Abra during this year 2021, is disputed.

In addition, this light sailing competition serves every year as a tribute to José Luis Azqueta, who was president of the Club between 1993 and 1997. Azqueta was one of the great drivers of this sport in the Basque Country. After months without competition, except in the lower categories that will not be able to compete, the light candle returns to the Abra.

The José Luis Azqueta Trophy has already passed its age of majority. And it is that there are already 19 editions that meet one of the most outstanding quotes of light candle in the Cantabrian sea. The Vizcaina waters of the Abra this weekend receive one of the most relevant tests of the calendar that program the Basque light candle, now highly conditioned by the pandemic. About 80 young Basque and Asturian regatists participate in one of the most popular competitions in this specialty: the José Luis Azqueta Trophy.

This outstanding and always participatory regatta, organized by the Real Club Marítimo del Abra - Real Sporting Club, makes it possible for the promises of the sailing of different origins and clubs to calibrate their state of form and evolution in this initial stretch of the season, even if it is now mediated by the restrictions and the smallest - class Optimist - cannot participate. All measures established and necessary in these times of pandemic will be taken to ensure the safety of each participant and individuals of the organization.

Two years ago, since in 2020 there was no championship for being in full confinement, the most prominent were Juan Olábarri and Miguel Antona, from the Real Club Marítimo del Abra-Real Sporting Club, which were awarded that edition by finishing a full of six wins in its class 420. In addition, Manolo Rey-Baltar won in the Laser Radial class, Tanis Rey-Baltar did in Laser 4.7, Mariana and Inés Herrero in the FEVA class, Marco Espinosa in Optimist A and Jon Berastegui in Optimist B.
