Olympic Square for Spain in ILCA 7 and passport to Tokyo for Cristina Pujol in ILCA 6

Great closing day at Vilamoura Qualification Event, in which a ninth position of Joel Rodríguez has confirmed the Olympic square of ILCA 7 for Spain... in ILCA 6, the classification of Cristina Pujol as the first Spanish, within the required parameters, gives the Catalan regatist her personal passport to represent Spain in Tokyo, in the absence of the official communication of the Technical Committee and the ratification by the COE
Spectacular final day in Portuguese waters of the ILCA Vilamoura Qualification Event, which Spain closes by confirming the Olympic square for ILCA 7 in Tokyo and the Catalan regatist Cristina Pujol as national representative in ILCA 6 in the next games.
The Olympic square in ILCA 7 was at hand, but in a race anything can happen and today the race field has been particularly aggressive with the fleet. A huge thick sea and the wind around the 20 knots have tested the regatists. All the possibilities entered the forecasts, both for the Olympic Square and for the class winner, and so it has remained until the last race.
None of those who until the last day had passed through the post of leader achieved the final victory, but a Philipp Buhl (GER) who until yesterday did not stand by the podium. Brazilian Robert Scheidt and British Michael Beckett completed the winning trio.
The winners were clear but the Spanish square for Tokyo remained in the air as the fleet crossed the line of arrival. Joel Rodríguez was expected and at 29 of the first race he added a 39 that he could rule out as his worst result. The canary regatist went down from the fifth to the ninth place, but managed to keep Spain as the first country among those not classified for Tokyo and lift the flag that pointed out the achievement: ILCA 7 has become the ninth class, of the ten possible, in which Spain will be represented at the Olympic Games. The missing, Finn, has his last test of classification in Porto waters from 8 to 12 May. His teammate, Joaquín Blanco, ended up at the 15th.
In ILCA 6, six have been the Spanish ones who have sailed in the Golden Group during the last days, fighting for the best place among the first 20 countries classified, a condition required by the Technical Department of the RFEV to be appointed as Spanish representative in Tokyo.
Asunción Roca, Martina Reino, Cristina Pujol and Fátima Reyes have fought hard for the post and have been taking turns among the first positions of the Spanish, with Cristina Pujol being the one who, at the pass of the equator of the championship, was looking for the leader of the Spanish squadron. Also among the girls it has been hard to stay on the limits established in the face of the hardness of the conditions of the last two days, but still falling from the 15 to 22 post behind today's sleeves, Cristina Pujol has managed to seal his personal passport to Tokyo and become the 13 member of the ESP Sailing Team, the Spanish Olympic Sailing Team.

2021 / 04 / 23: Spain with many possibilities of achieving the Olympic ticket in ILCA 7

One of the lime and one of sand for Joel Rodríguez who, after putting his foot on the podium with the first race, ends the day in fifth position, three points from the third and keeping Spain as leader among the unclassified for the Games... Spanish women suffer with the wind rise and Cristina Pujol ends the day in the 15th position, followed by Martina Reino in position 20
The Brisca Lola has made an act of presence in Portuguese waters, tensing the atmosphere on the penultimate day of the Vilamoura Qualification Event of the ILCA class. With wind and waves, the race field today has shown its toughest face, conditions that have also shaken the classifications leaving the possibilities very open for the day of the championship's closure.
What does not seem to cloud Lola are Spain's options for achieving the country classification for Tokyo in ILCA 7, maintaining today the first position between the applicants for the two places at stake. 33 points from Joel Rodríguez is the Netherlands and 49 Belgium, with Joaquín Blanco standing between them, four points ahead of Belgium. A mattress that gives the team some tranquility without removing the need to continue fighting until the last stretch to seal the Spanish passport from the class to the Games.
With regard to individual classifications, Joel Rodríguez continues to flirt with the podium and after stepping on the third step at the end of the first race with a 12, he went down to the fifth place having to rule out a 32 in the second. But according to the continuous and pronounced changes in the upper part of the ILCA table, and the nine points of difference between the second and the sixth, Joel Rodríguez has many possibilities of completing his flirtation with conquest.
Those who have been affected by the hardness of conditions have been the girls of ILCA 6, among whom Cristina Pujol remains the first Spanish, but down to the 15th of the classification, followed today by Martina Reino, 20, and Fátima Reyes, 24. The Danish Anne- Marie Rindom remains an unchanging leader, with almost 30 points of advantage over the second, which is now the Swedish Josefin Olsson.

2021 / 04 / 22: Spain closer to the Olympic Square in ILCA 7 in Vilamoura

The Vilamoura Qualification of the ILCA class closes its fourth day and faces the final sprint with Spain leading the list of countries not yet classified for the Olympic Games in ILCA 7, thanks to another excellent day by Joel Rodríguez that is located fourth to one point on the podium. Among the girls of ILCA 6, Cristina Pujol remains the best Spanish on the table in seventh position.
Excellent day for Joel Rodríguez who ascends four positions in the ILCA 7 provisional to be placed in fourth position, one point from the podium and with 28 difference over the nearest rival in the fight for the Olympic Square, Dutch Duko Bos, 12th.
The canary regatist began the day by adding an eighth place, leading to the fifth position of a tight table in which the third, fourth and fifth place were tied to points. But the unstable conditions of the Portuguese waters affect all equally, and the second race would bring more changes in a tight table in which only the British Beckett, the new leader, seemed to be able to escape minimally.
Beckett reaffirmed himself in the first place after the second of the day, opening a 16-point gap with the second, the Croatian Filip Jurisic, who heads a group of five regatists in ten points with the Spanish in the middle of the ointment. This second test was not easy for Joel Rodríguez, but he went back and crossed the line at post 17, dismissing it as a worse partial.
In ILCA 6 there have been six Spanish women who have moved to the final phase in the Oro group, led by Cristina Pujol who maintains the seventh position as the only Spanish in Top10, followed by Fatima Reyes who occupies the 12th and Martina Reino on 13. Today it stands out the ninth partial place achieved by Carlota Sánchez, which makes him take ten places on the provisional until 28. The Danish Anne- Marie Rindon remains the leader of the championship

2021 / 04 / 21: Spain remains in Vilamoura with Olympic Square option in ILCA 6 and 7

Cristina Pujol and Fátima Reyes get into the Top10 of ILCA 6 with a fifth and seventh place respectively on an excellent day for the girls... after a second place in the first race that took Joel Rodríguez to the fourth place, a ninth leaves him in eighth position, keeping Spain as the first European country on the table of the unclassified for the Olympic Games
All ready in Vilamoura to start the final series of the Qualification Event in which, after three days of competition and six contested races, the Spanish options respond positively to the objectives marked: Spain is located as the first European country not yet classified for the Olympic Games on the provisional table of ILCA 7, and three girls fight in Top20 positions, the marked margin for the best of them to be designated Spanish representative in ILCA 6 in Tokyo.
The female ILCA 6 today played the first round of races, in which the Spanish Cristina Pujol, Fatima Reyes and Martina Kingdom achieved a substantial improvement in positions in the provisional classification. Cristina Pujol premiered with a first and closed the day with a seventh, ascending from post 13 to the fifth, six points from the third step of the podium. Fátima Reyes also had a good start with a second place, although an 11 in the second of the day only let him rise from the tenth place to the seventh. Martina Reino closes the Spanish trio in Top10 posts in the 14th position today, improving four posts in the provisional.
With regard to the classification of ILCA 7, in which Spain should be classified as one of the two best European countries not yet classified for the Olympic Games, Joel Rodríguez began with force signing a second post that led him to the fourth of the general, tied to points with the third step of the podium. A ninth in the second test of the day broke the spell and left us with the desire to see Spanish in the provisional Top3, but with the satisfaction that, with Rodriguez's eighth place, seven points from the podium, Spain remains the first unclassified European country, being closer to signing its Olympic passport in the class.
