Miguel Rodríguez (Marítimo de Canido) and Natalia Domínguez (RCN Sanxenxo) were the best sub-16, male and female of the yellow group in the seventh edition of the April Oil Trophy for the Optimist class. And all after an excellent battle in which only Breogán Riballo (Monte Real Club de Yates de Baiona), provisional leader on Saturday of the general of the blue group, was able to hold the pull of his rivals.
In the yellow group, Miguel Rodríguez (Marítimo de Canido) took the lead of the general to Jorge Álvarez (Nautical Sports Clube de Riveira) in the first morning race. A wind of 70 and 12 knots led the Vigo regatist to the second square of the manga, only behind Fernando González del Castillo (RCN Coruña), while Alvarez signed a sixth place.
Suddenly, Rodríguez Tábara was placed with 4 net points in front of the 7 of González del Castillo and the 9 of Alvarez... from there, the duel was focused between the ship of the Maritime of Canido and that of the Nautico of La Coruña... González del Castillo, leader of the Galician ranking, was in the fifth race, but only shortened one point because Miguel Rodríguez was second... everything was left for the sixth and final test of the program.
And there the coruñés, to which the judges showed black flag... and goodbye... without being able to go out to compete, the regatist of the Marítimo de Canido was made with the first place of the general by adding another partial win for a remarkable series, which he was supposed to command the general and win in sub-16. González del Castillo, second, was the best male sub-13, while Natalia Domínguez, seventh in general, beat in sub-16 female and Arancha Rivero (RCN Coruña) was imposed in sub-13 female.
The Nautico de Vigo, managed to put two of his regatists in those podiums: Inés Ameneiro as the third in sub-16 female and Luis Wizner in the third sub-13 male drawer.
For his part, in the blue group, Breogán Riballo (Monte Real Club de Yates) won a general who stayed in two Sunday tests... the regatist of the Baionese club was able to claim the margin of advantage of Saturday and ended with 24 net points, one less than Ana Mallo (RCN Coruña), second in the general and best female regatist.
In schools, the triumph of Sara Reboredo, the most regular of the regatists of the three participating clubs (Nauticos de Vigo and Sanxenxo and the Marítimo de Canido).
2021 / 04 / 17: First day of the April Oils Trophy in Vigo with Jorge Alvarez

After more than five hours in the water, the fleet was able to meet the program and run the three tests initially marked by the Regatas Committee. And it cost. First we had to wait for the wind to start. At two in the afternoon there were 6 knots, wind roll and a lot of current. So much that at three and a half hours the first exit had to be postponed: much of the fleet was off-line. At that time there was a wind of 280, that is, almost a West, at a speed of 7.5 knots (Photo Juan Caballero)
Jorge Alvarez (Riveira Nautical Sports Clube) in the yellow group, Breogán Riballo (Monte Real Club de Yates de Baiona) in the blue and Jacobo Guijarro (Real Club Nautico de Sanxenxo) in the category schools dominate the seventh edition of the April of Optimist Trophy after the first of the two days stipulated.
Jorge Álvarez, of the Riveira Sports Nautical Club, showed absolute regularity in the yellow group: three races, three third positions, 9 points and the lead as a prize. No one was as stable as he was. Because Miguel Rodríguez (Marítimo de Canido) began by sending - victory in the first test - but then went to ninth place in the second. Another triumph of his in the third allowed him to add 11 points and to take part in the second square at the end of the day.
He completed the provisional podium Fernando González del Castillo (RCN Coruña), leader of the autonomous ranking, with a series 4-6-2 and 12 points. Behind, the representation of the Nautico, in fifth place (Pedro Vecino) and sixth place (Luis Wizner).
In the blue group, Riballo and his "Kamikaze" command with 13 points (8-4-1), three less than Noah Bornia (CM Oza, 3-2-11), and with more advantage over the third classified, Yago Cordero (RCN Sanxenxo, 6-12-6). It was a day of many ups and downs of the regatists. It was a good start for the host fleet, as Bruno Maure (RCN Vigo) took the first race. But then he went down to the post 30 of the general for a 37 in the second race and a BFD (disqualification on exit with black flag) in the third.
In schools, excitement. Guijarro (RCN Sanxenxo) stands up leader this Sunday (7 points, 2-2-3), but the local Sara Reboredo (8, 1-5-2) and Inés González (10, 6-3-1) tighten the fight in the head.
