Cascais notes to The Ocean Race Europe 2021
After the departure of the race from the French city of Lorient in late May, the first edition of The Ocean Race Europe will stop in Cascais and take Portugal to the best international ocean navigation teams in the world.
The Ocean Race Europe will have an international fleet of VO65 monotypes that hit records and resulted in the most equalled edition in the history of The Ocean Race in 2017- 18. For the teams the race is the first step in their journey to the next edition of the world round in 2022-23, with departure in Alicante.
The fleet of IMOCA monocascos with foils will participate for the first time in a race organized by The Ocean Race. IMOCA teams contribute a high-tech component to the event, showing the latest technology in the world of the foils.
The local team in Cascais, the Mirpuri Foundation Racing Team, was the first VO65 crew to confirm their presence in the European race in January and the Mirpuri Foundation will host the event from its training base at the Cascais Naval Clube, 30 km west of the Tagus and Lisbon estuary, between the Sintra and Atlantic mountains.
The Ocean Race Europe will begin in Lorient on the last weekend of May, from where the teams will descend south through the Gulf of Vizcaya across the Atlantic, making a stop in Cascais... from there, the two fleets will enter the Mediterranean... to conclude in Genoa, in the third week of June, with a new stop along the route in the Mediterranean that will soon be confirmed.
