Martina won the f ruto victory of her regularity... drenched by the first manga in which she was 20... but this score discounted her, to accumulate only 8 points which gave her a hollow victory over the French Marie Barrue

This seventh edition of the Carnival Regata, organized by the Royal Nautical Club of Gran Canaria, with the class ILCA 6 and 4 as the only protagonists, had a prominent international participation with 13 registered countries and a very high level, with athletes hastening their last months of pre-Olympic preparation in the waters of Gran Canaria.

Although at the beginning of the championship the titles of Bouwmeester, the current world and European champion of ILCA 6, looked like an irrefutable presentation card, it was the French Marie Barrue who took the baton leading the first bars of the competition and leading the provisional at the end of a very good first day also for Spain, which managed to put five athletes in the top ten. Bouwmeester did not win any race on this day, but he was able to maintain a correct regularity that allowed him the second place on the podium, while the current number two of the world ranking, Vasileia Karachaliou, was third on the last sleeve.

The Sunday day, with the last three scheduled races, was more cloudy, which led to a change in conditions with a weaker entry of pressure. Martina Reino was very attentive to a more capricious race field that demanded a lot of concentration to get speed on the boats.

The fact that the Dutch Bouwmeester was disqualified by an offline and Marie Barrue did her worst in the last test along with the suspension of the last race, helped Martina Kingdom to conquer the podium of the general classification by taking a considerable advantage to her rivals, Barrure and Karachaliou, second and third in the honorary positions respectively, being tied to points the Greek representative with the double Olympic medal Bouwmeester finally fourth. The final general was thus:

1. Martina Kingdom ESP (((20) -2-3-1-2) total 8 points
2. Marie Barrue FRA (1-8-1- (16)) total 13 points.
3. Vasileia Karachaliou GRE (2-1- (12) -10-5) total 18 points.
4.- Marit Bouwmeester NED (3-4-7- (UFD) -4) total 18 points.
5. Rafael Lora ESP (4-6- (15) -5-6) total 21 points.

In ILCA 4, the victory was for the canary Ernesto Suárez, followed by Viktor Kateliev, the bronze being Nehuen Ambrosini.

2021 / 02 / 14: Carnival Regatta in the Canary Islands... the French Marie Barrue commands after the first day

After the first three races planned for today's opening day, organized by the Royal Nautical Club of Gran Canaria, France has a comfortable first position on the provisional, while the Dutch Bouwmeester and Greek Karachaliou are a single point of difference on the podium. Spain has five athletes among the top ten

With winds of ten knots of northern component... the fleet of ILCA 6 and ILCA 4, finally composed of 56 participants, took the first test out on a single field of races.

The high level of the ILCA 6 fleet became known from the first compasses, in which the local Martina Reino, demonstrated its experience in these waters, mounting on several occasions first in the barlovento beacon. If a priori the looks were placed on the powerful Dutch team with Marit Bouwmeester at the front, the fact is that the first positions were resisted to the double Olympic medal and Marie Barrue opened and closed the day with the first two, while the Greek Karachaliou took the cat to the water in the remaining test, although the Dutch regularity has served her to take out only that point of difference to occupy the second place of the podium.

We must highlight the performance of the Spanish team, because in this Carnival Regatta, with 13 countries participating, we now have five athletes among the top ten places on the provisional. The canarione Martina Reino is fifth with a second position as the best partial, Alfonso Fernández del Náutico de Tenerife is seventh, achieving a third in the second race, Carlota Sánchez del Náutico Gran Canaria also had a spectacular performance in the third trial fighting in the head group and currently occupies the ninth position, while his team partner Isabel Hernández enters the top ten.
