A la presentación de la rueda de prensa, celebrada en el Salón Dámaso del Real Club Náutico, tanto el Director de Deportes del Gobierno Canario, Manuel López como el Consejero de Deportes del Cabildo, Francisco Castellanos, destacaron el encomiable esfuerzo que están haciendo las instituciones públicas y privadas, para sacar adelante estos eventos deportivos de alto nivel, que están situando al archipiélago canario, en el epicentro de la vela olímpica internacional

At the presentation of the press conference, held in the Dámaso Salon del Real Club Náutico, both the Director of Sports of the Government of Canario, Manuel López and the Counsellor of Sports of the Cabildo, Francisco Castellanos, highlighted the commendable effort being made by public and private institutions to take forward these high-level sports events, which are placing the Canary Islands, at the epicenter of the international Olympic sailing.

Eleven countries will compete this next weekend, in which it will be the seventh edition of the Carnival Regata organized by the Real Club Náutico Gran Canaria with the sponsorship of the Sports Council of the Government of the Canary Islands, the Island Sports Institute of the Cabildo grancanario and the Municipal Sports Institute of the City Hall.

In this edition, only two will participatelight candle modes: ILCA 6 and ILCA 4. With a fleet that will be around the 60 boats, during this event will be held in parallel the Championship of Canaries of ILCA 6 and the Cup of Canaries of ILCA 4, trophies that will select the autonomous team that represents us at national events.

In line of departure will be lasers of the Nautico de Arrecife, the Club de Mar Radazul, the Real Club Nautico de Tenerife and the Club host, but with a wide international representation that we are sure will give a great show, as among the registered we have powerful teams such as the Dutch, with the double Olympic medal Marit Bouwmeester in front, a team of four Russian regatists, the veteran Belarusian Tatiana Drozdovskaya winner of an ISAF World Cup in 2007 or the Greek Vasileia Karachaliou, andn these moments, second in the World Sailing ranking. Bouwmeesteris currently the World Champion and European Champion of ILCA 6.

It should be noted that these professional athletes,the world circuit as components of the pre-Olympic teams of countries already classified for the next Tokyo Games, have chosen Gran Canaria as a winter base in recent years to carry out its preparation, due to the similar wind and waves of the bay of Las Palmas compared to that of Enoshima in Japan, where the Olympic Games will be held. The eleven countries that will meet during the next weekend are: Belarus, Canada, Cyprus, France, Greece, India, Latvia, the Netherlands, Romania, Russia and Spain. For Spain you will be on the Catalan line of departure Cristina Pujol, the Majorcan Aina Bouza and the Grancanaria Martina Reino.

The 7th edition of the Carnival Regatta will have 6 qualifying races spread over two days of competition, with three daily tests scheduled in one race field located in the bay of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
