Bureau Veritas success in the inspection of the Mediterranean with underwater drones

During the implementation of the project, the Seasam drone, sensors and control systems of the Notilo Plus software have successfully demonstrated the new innovative capabilities and improvements that this technology brings, placing it as an alternative to the traditional process of inspection through recognized divers.
Bureau Veritas, a world leader in inspection, certification and testing services, has successfully carried out the pilot project of remote underwater inspection, through drones on the ferry "Méditerranée" of the French shipping company CORSICA line. It is a great advance that has been achieved thanks to the Seasam technology of the Nitilo Plus company, specialized in autonomous underwater solutions.
Efficient underwater inspection of merchant vessels is essential in the naval industry to replace regular dry dike inspections or for hull damage checks. Bureau Veritas has been assessing opportunities to provide effective remote inspection services. Through the Seasam system, an underwater visit was made at the "Méditerranée" ferry in Marseille, supervised by the professional team of Bureau Veritas from its headquarters in Paris.
In this way, Bureau Veritas has noted that this system brings to ship inspections the following advantages:
• Safer operations, no divers in the water.
• Reduction of interference with ship operations.
• Higher quality images generated by the drone.
• Greater simplicity of implementation.
• A platform for sharing more accurate videos.
• A secure data platform with very intuitive and detailed reports.
"Remote underwater inspections improve security, reducing risk, time and expenditure, providing better results. Maintaining all the conditions of reliability of a ship requires a huge responsibility. This new technology therefore places digital classification at a higher level, offering new opportunities for our customers and Bureau Veritas", highlights Laurent Leblanc, Senior Vice President of the Navy and Offshore Operations at Bureau Veritas.
Bureau Veritas is a trusted partner in the naval sector to ensure that a wide range of ships comply with international laws and the World Maritime Organization (IMO) safety and environment regulations. Its experience, research programmes and presence in the naval sector and its regulatory bodies, allow Bureau Veritas to find solutions to the needs of shipowners and shipyards. At the same time, it advances every day for the continued digitization of the industry. All this, with the aim of advocating for continuous improvement on ships.
