SailGP second edition: from Bermuda to USA through the incomparable bay of Cadiz
The SailGP World Circuit today announces the full competition calendar of its second season, which will face eight national teams, formed by the world's best regatists, in eight events on three continents.
The Bermuda Grand Prix will give the gunshot out in April to a second extended season regarding the five events of the inaugural edition of 2019.
In addition to the already confirmed headquarters - Bermuda (24-25 April), Taranto (Italy, 5-6 June), Plymouth (United Kingdom, 17-18 July), Aarhus (Denmark, 20-21 August), Saint-Tropez (France, 11-12 September) and Cadiz (9-10 October) - Christchurch is established as host of the first New Zealand Grand Prize on 29 and 30 January 2022. The Grand Final will be held in San Francisco (USA) on March 26 and 27, 2022, where the second season champion will be decided to receive the $1 million prize.
In its second edition, SailGP will again have teams from Australia, France, Great Britain, Japan and the United States, as well as national selections from Denmark and Spain, which will be embarking on their first full seasons following the suspension of the 2020 campaign. The New Zealand team, led by the Olympic champions Peter Burling and Blair Tuke, will make their league debut. In addition, Sir Ben Ainslie will run his first full season at the helm of the British team and Jimmy Spihill will be the cane of a renewed American team.
