The Optimist Excellence Cup 2020-2021 is closed early. The SARS COV-2 pandemic and its latest developments, as well as the new mobility restrictions, have forced the cancellation of the Palamós Vila Trophy, the fourth and final OEC test. The Club de Vela Palamós recently reported the official cancellation of the race, previously the Vigo and Torrevieja clubs, and both for the same reasons.

The Spanish circuit of the class Optimist, of international scope, has been able to complete only one test, that held between 1 and 4 January in El Puerto de Santa María so that the direction of regata of the OEC studies to see if it is valid the circuit with one test, although it does not rule out in making a brief recognition to the winner of the harbour race in the framework of the next championship or cup of Spain.

In this sense it should be noted that the Spanish championship will be held at the Monte Real Club de Yates Bayona between March 29 and April 3, while the cup will be at the Nautical Club of Hondarribia from April 29 to May 2, which should have received the same test in 2020, but the health situation at that time forced it to be cancelled.
