Last week the deadline for registration for the Rolex Fastnet Race 2021 was opened, and in only one hour the limit of registration had already been reached, 400 ships for the compensated time classes, planned by the organization. The classes that compete in real time, IMOCA, Class40, etc., and the multicascos have more days to register, and the organization expects that a total of 500 ships are at the exit. New for this edition, as it is that the arrival will be located in Cherburg, so the theoretical tour will be about 695 miles, 90 miles more than with the previous tour.
The rest, the first 500 miles, remain the same, leaving from the Royal Yacht Squadron, heading south-west along the South English coast, negotiating Anvil Point, Portland Bill, Start Point and Lizard on the road, before the vital decision on which side to pass through the exclusion zone of the Traffic Separation Scheme opposite Land's End. Then there are the open sea crossings to Fastnet Rock and back to Bishop Rock, south-west of the Stilly Islands. From here on the route changes marginally. From Bishop Rock it is possible to direct the Cape of the Hague, the promontory further north-west of the Cotentin Peninsula, before making the last slight turn to starboard for the last 10 miles to the finish line in the port of Cherburg. The new course from Bishop Rock is 91 ° M, compared to 83 ° to Lizard.
On August 8, the 2021 edition begins, the most legendary, mythical and large race that enjoys an incomparable popularity, the Fastnet Race.
