Just after, the preparations will begin for the seventh Regata Ciudad del Puerto, Trophy Excellence Cup of Optimist, which organizes the Royal Nautical Club of El Puerto de Santa María between 2 and 4 January.

The New Year's Regatta opens to more than a dozen classes, some of them Olympic, and will again have some of the best specialists in each. On this occasion, in the circumstances, the Spanish are the majority in the lists of participants where Poles, Russians, Swedes, Slovaks and Tunisians are also registered, distributed in the classes of Windsurf Raceboard, Techno Sub 17, Sub 15 and Plus, RS: X and iQFoil, and the disciplines Ilca 6 (so far Laser Radial), Ilca 7 (formerly Laser Standard), Ilca 4 and 420.

For its part, La Regata Ciudad del Puerto, which has been held since 2014 in an uninterrupted manner, gave in 2018 a qualitative and quantitative leap in achieving its inclusion in the exclusive circuit of the Excellence Cup, something that for the RCN of El Puerto de Santa María was an over-organizational effort that ended with outstanding.

The success of that first year as an Excellence test is the reason for the Spanish Association of the International Optimist class to repeat for the fourth consecutive year in the Gaditana Bay. In the absence of two weeks to be held, the lists show the desire to sail the quarry, with regatists from the practice of all Andalusian clubs, and also from other Spanish territories, although in this case it will depend on the mobility in each case.
