The very young Coruñés regatist Fernando González of the Castillo del Real Club Náutico de La Coruña was declared the absolute winner of the Meeting Vanguard of Optimist, immersed in the Abanca Week... which had at stake the Trophy Aurelio Fernández Lage. It was a simply spectacular closing day in which the judges were able to complete four sleeves, in which they competed the 113 participating ships, with winds from the south-east rolling, which were over 15 knots.

The four valid sleeves were the winners of Del Castillo (2), and with a partial victory the pontevedresa Natalia Domínguez and Vigues Fernando Campos. It should be noted that precisely Natalia, who competes for the Royal Nautical Club of Sanxenxo, was splendid, being the best female and also reaching the fifth absolute... being only overcome by Del Castillo, by the regatists of Riveira Jorge Alvarez Mera and Bruno Iglesias Sanles, and the vigués Fernando Campos of the Club Marítimo de Canido.

To highlight both the Riveira Nautical Sports Club and the Canido Maritime Club, which were the most prominent after the Royal Nautical Club of La Coruña, that from a time to this part dominate in the children's and cadet divisions of the Galician candle.

The Náutico de La Coruña managed to bring in the "top ten" three regatists: Del Castillo, Javier García and the one that is number one of the ranking of Galicia, Martín Mijares. Riveira had in Alvarez e Iglesias at the 2nd and 3rd, while Sanxenxo had in Natalia his best optimist... and the Maritimo de Canido under the sports direction of one of the best base sailing specialists, Emilio Méndez, also had three among the best: Fernando Campos, Miguel Rodríguez Tabara and Rodrigo Pérez Moya.

In the blue group, in which were the promotion categories, the best were two North Optimists: Iago González of the Club Marítimo de Oza and Arancha Rivero of the Real Club Nautico de La Coruña.

Now the Abanca Week is only pending the rowing competitions, which will be held in the waters of the river of Pontevedra, in Marin of the hand of its Concello and of ENCE, in the next January. To date, 2200 athletes have already participated in the Abanca Week (Pyragüismo, Sailing and nautical skiing) and with the planned participation in rowing the three thousand will be reached. And what is better, the organizational rigour that has led to that despite the figures, there has not been a health problem.

107 optimists from all over Galicia saw as at 5: 00 p.m. on the last sailing date of the week Abanca 2020, the main regatta judge the Arosano Chuco Pérez Lapuente, ordered the annulment of which would have been the only valid proof of the opening day: the wind was coming down completely and the fleet more to sail... floated, when the barlovent beacon had not yet been reached and were already 30 minutes of navigation. The Meeting Vanguard with the Trophy Aurelio Fernández Lage at stake, left its marker to zero in the first day.

Until that time, even though there was some fear that there would be difficulties with the wind because of its fragility, the environment in the sports facilities of the Real Club Nautico de La Coruña, was expected. He was approaching the area of the regatists, the great pattern Vuelta al Mundo Chuny Bermudez de Castro, to observe the evolution of his daughter Pepa, who bears a high quality and is one of the promises of the female candle in the Herculine city. At present Pepa Bermudez de Castro is the second of the girls in the federal ranking, who leads the pontevedresa Natalia Dominguez Portela of the Royal Nautical Club of Sanxenxo.

When it was three o'clock in the afternoon, the movement in the ironing was beginning... and the optimist in groups of five (the impeccable Covid19 standards by the Nautical technicians) were gradually launched with a great organization. The news from the observers is that there was little wind, just eight knots from the south... but it was enough to start, and so it happened out of the first group with little wind, and the worst a sea that had been set, with two meters of wave, that would put pressure on what was going to happen... that the wind would go down.

Chuco had planned a route of less than one hour... but the fact is that at half an hour it was still two hundred meters short of the head to reach the beacon of barlovent... which made it impossible to meet the time limit and consequently for the land and end of the day. At the moment the head group was formed by the current number one Galician: Martín Mijares Grobas of the Real Nautico Club of La Coruña, behind him also the Coruñeses Fernando González del Castillo that is sixth of the ranking, Pepa Bermudez de Castro and Javier García... Jorge Costas of the Nautico Club Rodeira, the Ferrolana Marta Torres of the Bazan Group, the Viguesa Inés Ameneiro, the pontevedresa Natalia Dominguez and Alejandro Pérez of the Real Nautico Club of Sanxenxo.

By Sunday the regatists are quoted at 09.30 on the dock of the sports building of the Real Club Nautico de La Coruña, to begin to get out into the water, it is expected that an hour later the sleeves will start (two will be tried to be held). At the edge of five in the afternoon, it will be the award and closing of the Abanca Week, as far as sailing competitions are concerned.
