This weekend, the Royal Gran Canaria Nautical Club rehosts the Canary Olympic Week, in which a remarkable representation of the international light sailing fleet, including the Spanish pre-Olympic team of Laser Standard, Laser Radial and Finn, participates.

The bay of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria will again host in its waters, a remarkable representation of the international fleet of light sailing, from twenty-three countries... this year there are ten participating classes of light sailing: Finn, 420, ILCA (4.6 and 7) 420, 29er, Techno, 2.4 mR (open), Hansa 303 (open individual), with a forecast of 180 regatists in the line being left out.

In this twenty-second edition, the Real Club Náutico de Gran Canaria has a powerful list of registered members, with a group of international regatists of the Finn class, an Olympic boat that, after several years of absence, returns to Gran Canaria with the three-time European champion and two medals (gold and bronze) in the world championships, the Hungarian Zsombor Berecz, next to the Dutch Nicholas Heiner silver medal in the world of 2019, accompanied by the Spanish of Joan Cardona and Alejandro Muscat, third and fourth respectively in the European past held in Poland, among the most outstanding.

The presence of regatists who have already classified their country for the next Olympic Games in Tokyo 2021 scheduled to be held from July 23 to August 8 is confirmed. The Greek representative Vasileia Karachaliou and Lithuanian Viktrija Andrulyte, both of the Manolo Pazos Trophy in 2017 and 2018 respectively, are already training in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, as is the Hungarian Maria Erdi or Cypriot Marilena Makrmakri.

It should be noted that the Spanish team designated by the Royal Spanish Federation of Sailing of ILCA 6 and 7 (Radio Laser and Standard) will not only participate in this competition, but will have in Gran Canaria their basis for training in the coming winter months. Spain has its ranking pending for Tokyo 2021 and the regatists of the nautical grancanary Joel Rodríguez, Joaquín Blanco and Martina Reino are struggling to achieve this. In the youth class, the 420 class will measure forces with a representation of the Catalan sailing federation and crews from other islands of the Canary Islands.
