Concern within ANAVRE over the Natura Management Plan of the Balearic Islands
In the Official Bulletin of the Balearic Islands of October 20, the Government of the Balearic Islands's Environmental Council brought to public exhibition the draft decree approving the Natura 2000 Management Plan from the coast of Levante de Mallorca.
After reviewing it, we saw that it contained totally unacceptable provisions, thus prohibiting the anchorage on the sand according to the length or registration list of the ship with the excuse (as always) of protecting the posidonia and the environment; once again without mentioning at all the polluting discharges of the public and private emissaries so abundant in that area. In addition, the only specific protection measures taken in the field of environmental protection at sea consist of limitations and prohibitions on fondation, including sand funds.
In the face of these facts, the representatives of the various associations related to the nautical of recreation, after several meetings, we agreed to present a written statement of allegations jointly based on the contributions made by the participants. Among other reasons, we understand that this project is in violation of state regulations and invades the powers of the State, other Government of the Balearic Islands, and even of the municipalities and island council.
It is very important to stop these plumbing restrictions on the ballistic coast before their consequences are irreversible and make the practice of recreational nautical even more difficult. This project should be read in conjunction with the study on the loading capacity of the fondeos in the Balearic Islands developed by Ports IB, the purpose of which is not to restrict this activity, but to determine whether the number of recreational boats that tie in our ports and those that visit us can become saturated our coastline.
The study of Ports IB concludes that no, but the tendency of the Environmental Council in recent years has been to criminalize the nautical of recess accusing it of being responsible for the deterioration of the posidonia and its ecosystem in the Balearic Islands, avoiding evidence of the damage that has been causing in the marine environment for decades the discharges of poorly purified or unpurified waste water.
We are very afraid that all this activity will be aimed not at protecting our valuable marine ecosystem, but at turning our coastline into an immense field of buoys of payment, regardless of the fund in which they are settled. In addition, it should be borne in mind that the Balearic Islands is often used as a "pilot zone" to test limitations and restrictions on navigation and founding, and we are afraid that this type of measures and proposals could be extended to other points on the Spanish coast.
