SailGP updates the calendar of the 2021 and 2022 editions
SailGP updates its competitive calendar by announcing new headquarters for the first two events of its second season, initially scheduled in San Francisco and New York, which will now be held in the Bermuda Islands and in the Italian city of Taranto.
The Bermuda Grand Prix, presented by Hamilton Princess, will take place on 24 and 25 April 2021 and will be followed by the Italy Grand Prix, 124; Taranto, which premiere in Italian waters on 5 and 6 June. This change guarantees greater certainty in your event program, with the great end of season 2, currently scheduled for April 2022, in San Francisco.
The Bermuda Islands, a tourist destination par excellence located in the Atlantic, about 1,000 km from the east coast of the United States, have been protected from the pandemic and, thanks to its existing security measures, represent an ideal venue to resume the second season of SailGP and host previous training.
After its debut in the Atlantic Islands, SailGP will take the course of Europe, the base of four of the eight teams, for a series of five great awards that will start in Taranto, coastal city of southern Italy.
To the already scheduled great prizes of Britain (17 and 18 July) and Denmark (21 and 22 August), two European headquarters will be added and will be announced soon, along with the competition calendar of the second full season.
Bermuda
The first SailGP event in the Atlantic archipelago will be sponsored by the Bermuda Tourism Authority, thus highlighting its headquarters as a tourist and business destination. The iconic hotel, Hamilton Princess & Beach Club - a Fairmont hotel - located in Hamilton Bay, will be the main sponsor of the event, with West End Development Corporation (WEDCO) as the sponsor of the headquarters. The BF & M insurance firm, the global reinsurance company RenaissanceRe and the offshore banking and trust company, Butterfield Group, are added to the list of partners. SailGP and Bermuda will jointly implement social commitment programmes through the SailGP Inspire initiative.Taranto
The city of the southern coast of Italy will host its first Grand Prix. Its natural port offers a perfect setting and conditions for the exciting races of the second SailGP season 2 event. This is added to Taranto's international sports dating list, such as the Giro d'Italia stop in October 2020 or the 20th Mediterranean Games that will take place in 2026.
