The results of the Harbour Authority of Vigo after Taxes are positive and amount to 939,000 euros, higher in 656,000 euros than those obtained in the past exercise
The Board of Administration of the Harbour Authority of Vigo this morning assessed positively the good results recorded by the total traffic of the month of September that grew a + 14.39% on the same month of the previous year and, in particular, by the behaviour of the traffic of goods, with an increase of + 17.26%.
According to the port president, Enrique López Veiga, at the press conference following the Council meeting, the recovery of the traffic of goods has allowed the total of the monthly traffic to reach the greatest movement of September of the last decade. He noted that the results recorded this month have been good, given that the effects of the pandemic still persist, while cautioning that the trend is not yet consolidated and that it cannot be predicted what the evolution will be in view of the pandemic.
Similarly, in the one accumulated to September, the fall of goods has been reduced by about two and a half points compared to that accumulated last month. In addition, over the last decade, the volume of movement is above most of the totals prior to the financial year 2018 and is higher (+ 1.92%) than the average of the total traffic in goods of the last decade. This is why the Council assessed this recovery of traffics that has been observed since June, as it went from a fall of -6.82% to -1.69% in the current September.
However, this recovery can be trampled in the coming months because of the second wave that is affecting us very directly and which is also becoming very sensitive in countries in our environment with a large trade exchange, so it opens again another period of uncertainty. In this regard, López Veiga called for avoiding an excess of optimism, as "we do not know whether this trend will be consolidated."
As regards fishing traffic, according to the statistics of State Ports, Vigo is again at the head of the terminals in the movement of this goods, moving a total of 3,798 tons last September, compared to the 2,418 tons of A Coruña, which follows him in the ranking, next to Avilés, with 1,439 tons, and third on the list.
Another fact to be taken into account is that Vigo, for the first time in history, overcomes Barcelona in car traffic in goods. So much so that, during last September, the Viguese terminal moved 51,442 vehicles, compared to 35,459 in the Catalan one, figures that took it to the head of Spain in that month, even above Valencia, which moved 49,154 units... and all that, as López Veiga pointed out, "thanks to the successful production of the Viguese factory of PSA Peugeot Citröen and despite not yet having a railway connection to the Terminal."
