The international event that has been held in the Slovenian city of Portorož, with one day less given the new mobility restrictions, has taken place with a global success of the Spanish regatists with 6 regatists in the top ten of the European championship in the male and female categories... the next European of the class in El Puerto de Santa María... will be in 2021

Spain has proclaimed itself a subchampion of Europe by Teams in the international event of the Optimist class, unique in this special and very different year and in which Italy has proclaimed itself a champion. A European who has been closed before time given the turn given by the situation of the Covid-19, as regards its evolution in recent days, so that the Slovenian city of Portorož and the new restrictions have been forced to close the race with only 4 days of competition, though that is, able to complete the classification table and 1 tests in the final series.

At the global level, Spain, which has had a total of 10 regatists, has been brilliant in a very complicated field of regats and unstable and loose wind conditions that have not exceeded 10 knots of intensity in any of the 4 days that have been completed. The Spanish fleet has managed to place 5 regatists (2 boys and 3 girls) in the top ten of their respective general classifications.

As for the boys, the shooting of Xavier Garcia, 5th in the absolute general, stands out, although it appears in the European championship as 4th with 39 points, since the winner has been the Thai Weka Bhanubandh, ending with 13 points, the same has obtained the Italian Adriano Cardi (European champion). A post behind García has been classified the canary Jaime Ayarza (6th in the general and 5th in the European).

In this group Oro was also classified Miguel Padron, who managed to make a good race in the only test in the final series, ending in position 23. Padron closes his participation in the appointment of Slovenia at position 35 of the absolute general.

Already in the silver group Marc Mesquida was able to finish first, followed by Manuel Martín. Both are fired in positions 53 and 54 respectively of the absolute general.

Our girls had some better luck at the end of the competition, with 3 regatists on top ten: Patricia Ibáñez ends 5th with 28 points, just 5 to hang the bronze. In the back, with two different posts, Maria Castillo has been classified, adding 35 points and in the 9th square Marisa Alejandra Vicens has been located, with 43 points... Nora Garcia, for her part, ends up in the 14th square of the absolute general, while Alba Moreno, the first regatist of the Community of Madrid who manages to be part of the national team, concludes in the 35th position of the gold group.
