"Gas Acility," the world's largest LNG Buckering ship comes into service in the port of Roderdam
The "Gas Acility," owned by the Japanese company Mitsui O.S.K. Lines and with the classification of Bureau Veritas, is already in the vicinity of Rotterdam, where it will carry out supply operations to other ships in the area. Its 135 meters in length and 18,600 m3 of fuel storage capacity, make it the world's largest liquefied natural gas (LNG) bunking ship.
After starting his trip in May from the shipyards of Hudong- Zhonghua Shipbuilding, a Chinese shipbuilding group, he arrived in Malta in early August and is now preparing to operate in northern Europe. The "Gas Acility" currently has a long-term contract with the French energy company Total, by which it will supply LNG to, among many other ships, the large CMA CGM container carriers.
In fact, the French shipping company is completing the construction of new megabuques to LNG, one of them is the "CMA CGM Jacques Saadé," whose engine is considered the most powerful in the world within the LNG powered. The engines of these ships have been certified by Bureau Veritas.
For its part, the "Gas Acility" will be the first of the two twin MOL ships to serve, as the second keel-laying ceremony took place on 12 August. Both MOL and Total claim to be the largest LNG supply ships in the world. The "Gas Acility" twin, which will be classified by Bureau Veritas, will operate in the Mediterranean Sea. In particular, in the area of Marseille, where it will supply LNG to a wide range of vessels including six CMA CGM container carriers.
